To those people who cancel attending a wedding the week before

I feel your pain - it's sooooo annoying. A handful of people didn't turn up to ours at all - mostly evening people but even one all-day guest. I was seething. When I texted later to ask where he'd been, the reply was 'I was a tad under the weather'. Yeah, that person's off my Xmas card list! At least you have some time to upgrade people. I've been upgraded to a few weddings and have always been well chuffed
Get on the phone to your reserve list if you have one...
Don't worry about the rain though! Boots do some really nice see-through dome umbrellas for £15 that are ideal - you could even have photos under it. I carried mine around all day and was quite disappointed it didn't rain while we were outdoors. And seconded @trying_to_be_good - people get some awesome rainy wedding photos!0 -
Flipping heck - 11 cancellations...sorry to hear that. Hope you manage to discreetly upgrade some people.
I imagine that will be a few friendships that will be a little hard to be the same again
Ps - it poured down on the mornign of my wedding but we still had a great day. It eased off in the afternoon so we went out and got more pics then

I just can't believe that people could be that rude and selfish, honestly.

Me, Me, Me, I love a nice wedding

and we will never, ever return.0 -
I don't consider babies, babysitters, exams, builders or your work reasonable excuses.
Wow! I'm not suprised they felt they could cancel on you, you aren't exactly painting a nice picture of yourself here...
I consider all but the 'builders' as very valid excuses and not always forseeable a month in advance.
Hopefully you don't moan too much to your other guests about it as you may find you lose a few more friends along the way...:jBaby Boy born December 2012

How awful! I also wouldn't just be annoyed at the cost, I'd also be mortified at that there would be 11 less people at the ceremony (only 60 invited as it is) and there would be 1 and half empty tables! I'd definitely be looking to bump up a few people from my evening guest list. Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0

seriously, you don't think someone knew about an exam more than one week before the wedding?! if they can't make the wedding, then fine. but that is something you know about in advance.dizsiebubba wrote: »Wow! if you agree to come to a wedding and know you need a babysitter, then you arrange one. you don't suddenly remember you have kids a week beforehand....
if this was dinner or drinks or the theatre or the cinema or a day out - it would be rude to cancel like this at this stage. the wedding part is almost beside the point.:happyhear0 -

Finding a babysitter - this is easily foreseen.
Exam dates are usually known more than a month in advance!
Work - if they couldn't get the time off, most people would know this a month in advance.
The OP is not complaining that they cancelled, but that they cancelled SO LATE.
Illness/family crisis/a sick baby etc - these are all totally understandable as reasons for cancelling up to the day itself.7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs
