I refused to let my Mum take me out driving (both short-tempered) and insisted my laid back Dad took me out for practice. Turns out my Dad must have been fairly terrified because he turned from being Mr Laid Back to Mr Short-tempered-stress-head when I got behind the wheel. I obviously hadn't listened to him, almost crashed and we ended up arguing, he made me pull into a petrol station so he could fill up the car with petrol, I was crying hysterically inside the car and a little old lady knocked on the window and made me wind it down only to say "oh dear, is your Dad shouting at you for your bad driving, never mind dear, you'll get better" and threw my Dad a filthy look. It was quite funny and me and Dad ended up laughing at what had happened. I drove home without incidence and Mum took me out on 80% of the practice sessions after that :rotfl:
So my advice to you Edinburgher is "never mind dear, you'll get better":rotfl:
It does just come with practice, I never thought in a million years I'd ever EVER manage a hillstart without a panic attack but its just practice like anything I guess0 -
I agree, practice practice practice!
It supposed to take the average person between 25 and 30 hours of lessons to get to 'ready to take test' stage.
I failed mine 3 times, then changed instructor, had a couple of 'tweaking' lessons then passed fine. As long as you are comfortable with your instructor thats fine. But if you can, get out there with a none instructor to save the pennies, even if its just in a car park - probably better for their nerves!! (nothing to do with your driving i can just imagine its not an easy job!)

I passed my test when I was 17 and average a bump about every other year. My first whilst learning, Mum next to me and bumped into an old school friend - LIterally. Have since hit several objects, stationary and otherwise, White lining vehicle, concrete litter bin, gate post, small fence, BMW, Car park column, ......
I failed first attempt as rolled back at a round about, passed second.
Would NEVER have a new New car as wouldnt last a week.
My parking is VERY dodgey too, but My reveresing is awesome, therefore if I drove backwards i'd be brill.Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!

Slow day on the MFW front - £1 to OP Pot and EF, updated Amazon Marketplace prices, taking a packed lunch and having a HM dinner.0 -
Don't even get me started on driving!
I passed 4th time and the night before my fourth exam i had a final lesson and hit a curb, hit a mini roundabout and made my instructor fear for his life.
He told me that after i do this test tomorrow he thinks i need to practice roundabouts for the next test.
Well I PASSED (there were no roundabouts) but i'm definitely not a good driver. Seriously bad in actual fact!
Still i wasn't impressed with his negative attitude.
My failings on past tests included...stalling and rolling into busy traffic and the examiner having to put brakes on. Another test i was turning right and was too far in the middle of the road so cars had no choice but to stop, Another failing was driving too slow in a 40 although i was confused which exit i was supposed to turn.
Seriously for me driving was disastrous!!Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000
Mortgage 2: £270,000😱 Jan 2019 £253,000 April 20200 -
Think I have ballsed up my cashback credit card, furious with myself
I've been using it fine for 4-5 months, buying gifts, groceries etc. and paying as I went. The limit is a pathetic £250, so it's fairly hard to track. Anyway, I must have dropped the ball buying £160 worth of bus tickets + Christmas presents at the weekend and I have gone £5 over the limit.
Bye bye £100 cashback
Starting to wonder whether it was worth all the adhoc payments and obsessive tracking for the sake of £100...
Need to think up a way to bounce back from this one.
£1 payments to OP Pot and EF0 -
Southernman - your driving stories were really funny, glad you passed in the end
Edinburgher - Oh noCan you ring the CC people and say you applied for an increased limit?! or apply for one retrospectively? It is annoying when things like that happen and very frustrating. Hope you get it sorted
