Hi Ed,
I hope you manage to sort out things on the job front. If you consider how much time is spent at work, in my eyes, there is little point in spending this time doing something you don't want to do or somewhere you don't want to be. Happy hunting.
I'm definitely with you on making the most of the interest rates that are currently available. Nationwide and 123 accounts are where I put any spare cash up to the limits available - if only ISA rates would improve
If only I were a 30 something and had started planning my goals then. At 45 a mild sense of panic sets in knowing that saving time is limited unless you want to be working till you're 70. If I impart one piece of advice onto my kids it will be a link to this site
Enjoy your weekend

Hi Ed, I've been reading your diary over the last few weeks and finally finished - very inspiring
Although I have to say my financial knowledge is certainly not as in depth or far reaching as yours, some of your posts had me googling to try and understand :rotfl:
Good luck in finding a new job/calling in life
PFTP is so right - our working 'life' is so much a part of our lives, that it makes for being pretty miserable if some enjoyment isn't gained from our job/career
Hopefully 2014 is your year!

Call me an old fuddy duddy, but when did a fairly typical weekend trip to the cinema end up costing £30?
I think I could have got that down to c. £20 if we'd taken the bus to town and gone to £land, but it's no longer cheap entertainment.- £6 to Freedom Fund
- £12 to 2017
- £1.08 from TCB
- Cleaning the fish tank
- Shoes polished
- HM veggie burgers for tea
- Going to scour the cupboards for eBay items, figure we're about £120 on our savings goals for the month

Hi Mr E, completely agree about cinema prices. When I look at the queues and mentally tot up the cost it's shocking. Our cinema also checks bags to make sure you don't take drinks-eats in. Fortunately we have large (deep) pockets :rotfl:
Which film did you see?

We don't go to the cinema very often either due to cost - it used to be a cheap night out! Not any moreBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

After that, S@ntander 123 at 3% gross is your best bet for balances of £3-20k (only use them for over £3k, rates are pathetic below that).
There's also Lloyds Vantage paying 3% on balances between 3k and 5k, and you can have up to three of these accounts in your own name. Need to shuffle 1k a month in and out for this to work, but there's no monthly fee0 -
Good point SSS, think BoS do these as well?
For me, the fee is more than balanced out by cashback, but that won't be the same for everyone.0
