Are you tempted to join them?

Tomorrow, if I wasn't married with all the usual trappings of mortgage, car and taxes!

Now I love Mrs E to bits, but nobody will ever call her 'extreme' :rotfl:

Read the Early Retirement Extreme forum obsessively - those are some
    interesting and dedicated people

Is that on here? What kind of things are they doing?

I was reading some old-style tips, and definitely stopped at the term 'wetcloth'

any ERE threads stand out Ed? I'm time poor at the mo, so if I'm going to dip my toe in the water I'd rather it be for something interesting.

Sorry to hear that work situation seems to be getting worse rather than better. Hope there are plenty of interesting potential new jobs for you to apply for

    Hyperbole alert.

That's *nothing* on ERE. You would be considered effete for owning a cloth over there. They would be wiping their behinds with the sleeve of their only jumper that they had been wearing for 26 days and would hand wash it that night to wear again tomorrow.

If I'm honest, it's not the specifics, it's the sheer bloody minded wonder of watching people do something that it so counter-intuitive to the norm (like TV shows with hoarders or people fighting over the contents of storage lockers).

I can boil the whole thing down to:
    • Hack your expenses back like an axe murder at a knife sharpening convention
    • Save most of your earnings for 3-5 years (50% savings rate is 'meh', some manage c. 90% )
    • Invest your savings and retire

    /Hyperbole

Work is really pants and glib comments aside, I'm aware that a good chunk of the problem is me. I constantly end up in jobs where there's not much to do, I'm isolated and I lose spirit as a result. Trying to fix the wrong job aspect, but can't fix the other parts in the job I'm currently in.

Given your work ethic maybe you would be better off self employed?

Yes, but he also doesn't want to be isolated. SE is best for people who don't mind isolation, or who have a business partner so they aren't isolated while being SE.

Thanks for the concern Lois - I genuinely don't mind isolation as long as that's meant to be how I'm working/existing. I'm naturally very introverted (INFJ, if you believe in that sort of thing) :)

I have no problems dealing with small groups of people, building up good 1:1 relationships, or talking with a customer, but I do thrive on peace and quiet!

I'm an ENFJ and Mr T is ISTP - it would kill me to work on my own but he loves it.

Good luck with the job hunting :)
