Thanks PD!0 -
House looks lovely ED.
I love a bit of rightmove/zoopla browsing as well myself.
We will be thinking of moving around the same time too!M3 Dec2015 #160 Target £150,000 (BU £155000)0 -
Hello again!
Firstly, how rude of me. Sorry for skim-reading and not realising you have had bad news. I'm sorry to hear that. Not the best start to the new year.edinburgher wrote: »I beythink it would become the room of requirement (for the HP fans out there)
I would be one of those and I need ergo *re-basgsies*edinburgher wrote: »You *should* start a diary, there is no time like tonight!
I have had a mad few weeks and need to sit down with the paperwork and see where I'm up to, first. I meant to do it today, but the day ended up getting taken over by the shopping!edinburgher wrote: »Sorry to hear about the wine, I bet your drains smelled wonderful. A cheap fish tank heater (sterilised and be careful not to remove it until 30 mins after you turn it off or it might crack) is probably the way to go. Something like this.
Sweet as unfermented sweet white wine. What a waste in terms of both wine and money!
And Ed, you might honestly be a freakin' genius with that idea. :T:T:T Any idea what wattage I should get? I just googled the idea (there are some other freakin' geniuses out there, too, it seems) and I think the easiest thing for me to do would be to put it in the actual liquid. Would that fry the yeast or would it be OK? (Have you done this yourself? I always got the impression that you put yours in water in a fish tank.) I was going to do 30 bottles again, which is 25L. Some people seem to think the fish tank heaters won't heat much more than 10L and would need some sort of agitator to circulate the rest of the liquid. What do you think?

I've done it myself and it worked wonders. Sterilise it and put it in your primary fermenter. You could probably get one down the neck of a demijohn, but easier if you're using a bucket (I forget, does wine get some time in a bucket and then go into a demijohn before bottling)?
I'm using a 100W heater, I think 50W would be more than adequate. A cheap Chinese one would be fine. Why on earth would you want to agitate the wine? I thought letting it settle was one of the main things that made the difference between it tasting like sewage and tasting like wine! :rotfl:
Mrs E and I had a lovely weekend away and our bad news miraculously became good news! I am a very happy boy, will share in due course
Peebles was great fun and the hotel staff and the people in general were very welcoming. That said, I managed to book for October somehow! Cue the hotel staff being confused as heck, but too polite to mention it until we checked out. All resolved now, I think I was distracted when I booked.
Our remortgage has been approved, meaning our rate will drop by 1.85% come April
Because of this, I'm merging the Remortgage Pot, The Home Improvement Pot and 2017. All were going in the same direction and while the individual pots have been great for focusing me, they're a bit too complicated to manage sometimes. I'm thinking about my goals like a project plan these days, with the individual pots as dependent milestones.
Signature updated accordingly, on with the hard work.
Assorted financial triumphs and failures:- Spent £300
- Sold an eB@y item for c. £13
- Chased down TCB for cashback for a hotel stay, 981 Mr T points redeemed
- 6 eB@y items remain, all have bids
- We should get c. £15 cashback for our weekend stay

Nah - I'm being good - the topic will re-appear in due course. For now, no more mentions, promise
Good, listed an unwanted kitchen gadget on eB@y
Bad, spent £77 on new running shoes
In my defence, I only have one pair of trainers left and I need them for driving, so can't wear them out jogging (can't drive in smart shoes!)0 -
Was that the Hydro? Oooooohhhh, you're well posh Ed :rotfl:.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Is the one you linked to the one you use? I think it was something to do with equal heat dispersal on one of the forums, that was all. I suppose there would be a difference over a large body of liquid. I was planning on making a 30 bottle kit, which is 25L. Some people on the forums seem to think that the heaters only work for up to about 10L of liquid, others more. Personally, I don't fancy wasting about £30 on a wine kit plus sugar only for it not to work again, but I believe you, Ed, and if you haven't had a problem that's good enough for me (you did quite a few bottles, right?).edinburgher wrote: »Mrs E and I had a lovely weekend away and our bad news miraculously became good news! I know exactly what you mean...some clever so-and-so came up with a way of spreadsheeting it so you could put all your money in the same high interest account, but see the separate pots. They kindly shared the spreadsheet. Wish I could find it now, or be clever enough to figure out how to make one myself.
