Some people on the forums seem to think that the heaters only work for up to about 10L of liquid, others more. Personally, I don't fancy wasting about £30 on a wine kit plus sugar only for it not to work again, but I believe you, Ed, and if you haven't had a problem that's good enough for me (you did quite a few bottles, right?).
I only made beer using a heater, but it worked like a charm (held my primary fermenter at 18.2 degrees for a week when I was aiming for 18).
Fish tank heaters are specifically designed to heat large volumes of liquid and 25l is *tiny*, I wouldn't even keep a fish in 25l of water!
Remember that they only need to heat the difference between ambient temperature and ideal temperature. So if you're fermenting at 18 degrees, you only need to raise the temp from room temperature to 18 (negligible in a well insulated home, 3-4 degrees in a cold one).
Piece o' cake.
Busy day of work, housework and catsitting, considering an early night- Various eB@y items at £59.50, 2 days to run

That's a fair point. When I googled it people had discussed the very same thing on forums and were coming up with stats. saying it would be too much water for it to deal with about 10L, but it you've tried and tested it and given it the Ed seal of approval, that's as good as the Which? one for me, so I'll buy one now *Zips over to Bay of E with debit card between teeth*

Our payment has actually gone up by about £15, but we have taken 6 years off the term (17 as opposed to the 'natural' 23 we had left).
Oh, and my peppermint bark mould arrived, bargain at £2.29!0 -
