  • Hello Piq, hope the cough is easing. It's that time of year, isn't it (note to self, flu jab). Moving about outside does help, I think, though it's been so blustery today it's exhausting.

The pink 'Doris' sounds fabulous - I've never grown them, do they go on year after year, and how hardy are they? So much to do in the garden here and so little time at the weekend to get stuck into it. I'm going to plant up a barrel where my departed cats are buried, and you've shared some wonderful ideas for plant combinations, thank you.

I rarely finish work before 7pm but was home by 5.30 today, just in time to stretch the ponies' legs with elder DD, but it was quite dark when we got back and I went poo-picking by cap-light. The girls will be clipped in a week or so, one is in a light rug already and not too bad but the other is really woolly and can't go out of a walk without dripping. There was a time when this season meant hunter trials every weekend but DDs had enough of competing and can't be bothered to keep them fit enough even to school round some jumps, it's such a shame.

Never mind, I came indoors and DD had cooked supper and lit the fire, bless her, though she's grumbling constantly that I won't put the heating on. I can't afford any oil yet so DD can jolly well wear another layer.

DD's kittens (15 months so not really babies now) are both on MY bed and evidently expecting the hot water bottle. Ok, I'll do it now.... good night!

Hi P - hope you manage to slog through the day today. Nothing worse than feeling yukky and having to go work - especially walking around with food and having to be nice to everyone when you just want to go to bed! I hope it doesnt linger too long for you.

Igamogam - hope you feel better soon - sounds very painful.

Our horses are in at night now and rugged. I did my last Hunter Trial last weekend and think that will be it for now. Luckily we have an arena with lights but its so hard to find motivation when its windy / rainy / cold. This morning was blowing gales, pitch black and chucking it down with rain - I even checked my watch to see if I had the right time it was so dark :D

Hope everyone else is ok at the moment x

Sorry I haven't been around. All I've done is my shift at work and gone to bed. I've had, indeed, still got, tonsillitis and have felt a tad rough. I had to work as I wouldn't get paid if I didn't go in and money is painful this month...

Luckily I was allowed to just clear tables and stack the dishwasher so I didn't have to speak to anyone! No voice and a very sore throat....

Lovely to see you again! Don't stay away so long....

The Captain is clipped, he was too woolly to work. Just a blanket clip this year as I want to keep his old back warm.

I've also planted up a pot of winter pansies for colin's house :o I thought he might feel a bit left out that the Bear had all the flowers:) He actually used his house today for the first time. He'd insisted on going out as I left for work and of course it rained very heavily. He was lovely and dry in his house under the shrubbery :D

Dark, cold, wet mornings do make you doubt your sanity, don't they? The Captain is in at night too. I've also waterproofed his feathers as much as I can to avoid mud fever. I have told him to stay out of the puddles, but he's not known for listening to good advice...
