    Hi Piq
So sorry to hear about your summer flu, and back pain - what a depressing combination! I've had a bad back for years - used to be awful, now just a bit niggly from time to time, but I am very careful about what and how I lift things. I found two things helped: firstly, keeping it moving, however gently - if I stopped and lay on the sofa it seized up and was much worse. The other thing was an exercise: stand up straight (if you can ....) with your feet slightly apart, then very slowly drop your chin onto your chest and sort of 'roll' the rest of your spine as you lower your head and upper body. Go as far as is comfortable, then gently 'roll' it all so you are standing straight again, think of it as one vertebra (sp?) at a time. Hope that's clear, not very good at describing things! Do hope you feel better very soon. xx

Oh Piq sorry you felt rubbish do try the rolling exercise even lying on your back and hugging knees to chest rocking gentle fom side to side.

Hope Bear is being nice to you and it eases up soon

Sort of done the exercise. My back is a little better today, but I'm finding it difficult to bend ie put on trousers, pick up stuff off the floor. Why do I keep dropping things when it's almost impossible to pick them up???

The Bear is not being good to me, for one thing his food bowl is on the floor....and he has chosen to shed quite spectacularly in the last 24 hours, there are huge clumps of hair everywhere  I'm surprised he hasn't got any bald patches...

I'm finding that keeping moving is helping, but of course, I can't do that all the time. I'm dreading Pr*t, saving the painkillers for before I go!

Good thing is the flu type bug has gone :T

Now there's a moneyspinner....offering ladies in labour drinks....

The drink didn't really help, just made me a little more staggery....

    Hi P,

sorry to hear things have been a bit rough. Hope the fluey thing has gone.

I suffer with bad back (damaged nerves between v3 and v4) a few years back trapped them again whilst jumping which I why I am not supposed to. The back person explained to me a lot of the pain was inflammation which is heat and by making it warm can make it worse. Try putting a pack of cold peas on the area first and then have a warm bath - apparently the cold reduces the inflammation and then the warmth gets blood flowing again. It did help me. Also co-codamol is better than normal ibuprofen and paracetamol if you can take codein? Nothing worse that constant back pain - it drains you and makes you feel constantly tired.

Hope it eases soon for you x

You poor thing, I really don't know how people like you and PG put up with the pain, it's continual and there's no relief. Do you still jump?

I've heard that about the pack of cold peas and inflammation. I think I'll try it tonight. I won't be having a hot bath as it was very difficult to get out of yesterday:eek: I'll stick with a shower for the time being.

I'll get some co-codamol on the way to work and take it then, I've been taking ibuprofen and haven't noticed much difference. I do have asprin, is that better, do you think?

Hope all invalids are on the road to recovery :).

This morning's literary excerpts come from Ireland, via another MSE thread:
……..… “Give it to me, give it to me”, he roared aggressively. Some
days Mary hated working at Ulster Bank.

“She Quivered as I stroked her thighs. Take me in the shower Sean!” -
I whispered to her “Wait til I turn on the immersion”.

She took a deep breath as the shivers rolled down her hot body…
Jaysus, she thought. The Vicks is kicking in now!

    And from 50 Sheds:
She was such a tease. 'I'm just going to slip into something hot and see-through,' she promised. I waited all night in that greenhouse . . .
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I also suffer from IBS and find asprin too aggressive - the co-codamol I only take for a day or two. I have learnt to 'manage' it and know when to ride and when not to and have terrible posture at the best of times. I dont jump high and I dont jump much - its the reason I took up dressage. Sometimes I find the riding actually helps.

Have spent far too much time watching the 3 day eventing (Olympics) on telly and now need to catch up work. Am loving all the Olympics though. :D

I got some co-codamol on the way to work and took it straight away. It certainly helped me get through the shift, although I couldn't bend down to pick up anything off the floor!

I can feel my posture suffering as I'm holding myself tightly, however, if I take another tablet at bedtime and it takes the pain away I should relax and hopefully, everything will be easier in the morning.

I'm looking forward to the dressage to music, I love the dancing horses. I will record the whole thing and watch in awe and envy. Dancing is not in the Captain's repertoire I'm afraid:D

My son came round this evening to help me out, he pushed the vacuum cleaner round the whole house, changed my bedding as it was covered in Bear hair and put a washing load on for me. I cooked dinner as it doesn't involve too much back activity.

Pr*t were very good and made sure I didn't get any jobs that involved bending, they were so grateful that I'd turned up! It was manically busy and they needed every hand they had. No bananas today....

I've done the finances for the month and provided I keep a tight rein on them I'll get through the month. The car insurance is due at the end of the month so I need to do some shopping around on prices. I must do some more eb*ying and get a few more writing assignments in to cover any extras.

The Captain is due new shoes on the 10th, the money is already put aside for that. He will need some more joint supplements, I'll shop round for those too.

....and bargain of the day.....six damaged boxes of Whiskas pouches for £1 each:T It was going to be a NSD but the boxes are normally over £4 so they had to be snaffled there and then. I'm not telling the Bear that his dinners had damaged packing....
