I'm in same position as OP - iphone 4s or samsung s2?

iphone or android? smartphone and/or tablet?
Iphone 4S not impressed, other options?
iPhone or Galaxy 2?
And yet another important factor to keep in mind is the manufacturer's warranty.
It is 24 months for HTC, Samsung, but only 12 months for iPhone and it costs extra £61 to extend it to two years. However, to be fair, Apple's CS and repairs are probably the best around.0 -
I've always said I'm not getting an iphone! I got a HTC Wildfire last January, bought the phone outright and have a tesco sim only 30day contract - fine for what I use.
I get bored of phones fairly quickly and am also finding the HTC quite slow. A family member and her partner bought iphone 4s's last week and I was jealous - think I want one.
I can afford it but not sure if in my head I can justify spending £500 outright on a phone. I don't want the 3gs but do want facetime, but not bothered about siri. So the 4 should be fine, however if that's going to be out of date come August maybe I should get the 4s!?
I'm just wondering what people think the best deals are at the moment? I've seen Martins article but this covers 3gs and 4s but not 4.
I have seen tesco - either sim only at £12.50 a month, but can't find a price for the phone alone from them. Or their contract for 24months, with £130 for handset and £20 a month - more money but I'd get a new phone at the end of 2 years when I upgrade - any good deals/opinions?
how about a sim free Evo 3d for £100 more?

Obviously both phones need to be high end phones with front facing cameras. But the iphone 4s is also a high end phone!
FaceTime can be used 3G or wifi 😉Get Appletv2 & XBMC in and thank me later :beer:0 -

From my Nokia N95 8GB I've tried a number of phones... T-Mobile G1, iPhone 3G, HTC Magic, HTC Desire, iPhone 4, HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2 then recently the iPhone 4S. The only phones I've ever stuck with and been happy with is the iPhone.
It will sync perfectly with Google Mail, Contacts, Exchange, Calendar in the same way that an Android phone will. It supports Google Maps, Google Earth, Navigation, Etc. The battery life has always blown away any Android compared phone with the same functions enabled (Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi) and despite the comments about the cameras on previous phones - the iPhone 4 and 4S cameras are yet to be improved.
The most valuable thing for me however was when I went a wet hillwalk and my iPhone 4 wouldn't switch on after it. No water sensors went off so I walked into the Apple store and walked out 30 minutes later with a new (Refurbished) phone - plugged into my laptop to restore the last backup and all my voice recordings, notes, photos of daughter were all safe and restored. This is all now done on iCloud and such and Android has their own equivalent - but the convience was very much a pleasure.
It's not all good though... if I had stuck with the SGS2 I'd have saved £5 a month on my mobile contract and also didn't have an upfront fee of £50. That's £170 straight away over two years for a phone with overall the same functions. But that's preference for you.
The other thing also against the iPhone is HBOS Insurance... to replace ANY phone that isn't an iPhone the excess is £30. For an iPhone, any model it is £100. Not so much against the iPhone but you could consider it 'Apple' tax for having the fruit on your device.
The iPhone isn't for everyone, likewise with the Android. What really grinds my gears though, is when people say "Stay clear of the iPhone" and "It's crap" or "It's a rip off" when they have not experienced or owned the device themselves to compare. The same goes the other way with negative comments regarding Android - but Apple takes more of a hit on this due to the price.
Is it justified paying the extra for an iPhone. For me, yes it is. But it isn't for everyone.0 -
Chib - thanks for that, such a helpful post0
