Hyundai i30 2011 - Pros and cons

As the model is about to be replaced this will have an ongoing effect on residuals Jase1. You cannot discount new cars by around 20-30% and hope that residuals stay as strong as they have been - simple economics.
For the money I think they are pretty good purchases0 -
See I don't think that's right.
I bought a three year old Focus 1.6 for £3500, with 70,000 miles. I have not seen an i30 that cheap yet, and the i30 is a cheaper car to begin with -- TBH I've not seen one retailing for less than five grand at that age.
Where did you buy a 3 year old focus for that price and when
The above isnt a fair representation IMO
I just did a nationwide search on autotrader for a 3 year old focus and there was only one with less than 100000 miles on for less than £5000 and that was £4500 for an 09 with 77000
the same search brought up an 09 i30 for £4500 with 22000 miles on.0 -
Thanks for both your replies.
Photome - do you know how many MPG you get with your 1.4 and is it the same as originally advertised.
Also, how did you find dealing with Hyundia regarding your warranty?
Not sure of MPG, I rarely drive it but at guess I think it is high 30s but it is mostly used for commutting 6 miles a day,she only does about 4000 miles a year in total its not really an issue
I tried 2 garages when I had an issue, nither of which were the selling garage, the first in Norwich were not that helpful, the second in Bury st Edmunds couldnt couldnt do enough for me and ordered parts before they even saw the car0 -
The i30 is just about to be replaced by a newer model, so new ones are massively discounted at present-you should be able to get at least 30% off a new one. And resale values should plummet accordingly.
The problem with Huyndai's (for a new buyer) are the poor residual values, so don't pay over the odds for a second hand one.
Thanks for that!
What are your or anyone else's thoughts on what should be paid for a second hand one?0 -
Forgot to ask in my OP...
What are your thougts on engine size between a 1.4 or 1.6 petrol?
Also in general terms what is best to consider when choosing between a diesel and a petrol car?0 -

The 1.4 petrol is generally considered better than the 1.6.
How many miles do you do? less than 10000 a year a petrol IMO more than that, take your pick0 -
Thanks - Probably would be around 10000. I had read that the 1.4 is considered better than the 1.6 but no evidence as to why.
Anyone any ideas?0 -
The 1.4 delivers similar power (108BHP) to some 1.6 engines, which is I think where this idea comes from -- there's little point in going for the 1.6 if you're used to the typical 100BHP 1.6 engines from other marques.
Similarly the 1.6's output is more typical of a 1.8 engine (124BHP).0 -
In the CEED the foot well is cramped, I could not get comfortable, is the I30 similar?0
