^^^ your line sync is now getting there for your attenuation, I'd expect it to settle around 5.5-6Meg sync, throughput (i.e. speed test results) 4.5-5Meg. Hang in there, training period is a PITA, just avoid rebooting your router while it's still going on :)

Latest router stats. Last speed test was 2.93Mbps
    Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time WAN MER 107756 1217830 0 1170 2360 9:01:05 LAN Up 170330 99429 0 217 7 51:39:18 WLAN Up 977942 805335 0 3510 1347 51:38:57 ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 5020 kbps 797 kbps Line Attenuation 45.5 dB 28.6 dB Noise Margin 2.4 dB 13.1 dB
  • Your noise margin is way low, sky aim for the 7db mark on download.

Out of interest how far are you from the exchange?

I am 1.83km from the exchange.

These are my previous router stats when I had the Netgear router
    ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4736 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 43 db 13.5 db
Noise Margin 11 db 24 db

I thought the lower noise margin the better, or have I got that wrong?

At this time of the evening, in winter, is around when your downstream snrm will be at it's "trough-point"...

To explain, when you resync your router around mid-day, it will do so around your target snrm, say 6-7dB. As the day progresses into darkness, the atmospheric conditions will have a detrimental effect on snrm due to increased noise. If you plotted a graph of your snrm over a 24-hr period, it'd be a sine wave shape, with the peak around mid-day, and the trough around, well, now-ish. The times will vary according to the time of year, at the heighr of summer the peak/trough may well be loser to 14:00 and 01:00 hrs respectively.

Your snrm appears to be behaving perfectly normally at the moment :)

  • While I was in DLM my noise margin went down to around 7db and my router was syncing at around 14Mbps, unfortunately my line was unstable at those speeds and my connection kept dropping.

Since finishing dlm its stable at just over 8Mbps and noise margin of about 13db

I've had a few disconnections tonight, but it hasn't taken long to reconnect.

again, normal during training, it's the MSAN finding how stable your line is and adjusting snrm & sync to find it's optimum fit.

callistris - your low speed and high snrm would imply that, even though you are on a short-ish line, there must have been some instability present during your training period for you to have settled on such a low speed/high snrm. This is where sky's "you must use our router" lark doesn't help. With a "normal" netgear, D-Link, etc. you could use DMT or Routerstats to monitor your line and tweak your snrm yourself for more speed.

If I were you I'd be asking sky to put your line through training again, on a stable line that short, you should be syncing around 17Meg :(
