Need some help from a Postie re delivery

I have been able to send parcels by Recorded Delivery for as long as I can remember so did not understand why this delivery service was still being treated different to standard 1st and 2nd class.

Well after all of that, he was able to arrange for someone to be home today for the redelivery. It also seems RD is more reliable (for tracking online) than what it used to be as it didn't always update online.

More posties are using pdas now which track more in real time than the old paper ones. Those paper ones had to be scanned in the local delivery office then sent off to a central office where the signatures were scanned too.

RM are notoriously slow at changing their systems. So while you may have been able to send parcels as RD for some time, RM still classed it as a business service, usually for papers. Just takes some time for RM head monkeys to see what's in front of their noses.

The posties around my area have used the pdas for around two year now. It was only the posties that deliver the letters and small packets on foot that were still using the old paper forms for signatures but I have noticed since they now use the trolley's to deliver mail they carry the pda's with them too so all the posties must have one now.

except there were never designed for that
PDAs were designed to be used from vans
their battery life is pathetic
they were meant to produce improved versions for foot use
however they plod along with crap hardware/software

Not all the postie's have them as yet. There are still places to get them afaik. Think they are being rolled out alongside the revision. As custardly says, the battery life on them is real pants. And can't see them lasting the length of a duty.

Wonder if that means my postie will actually knock the door for RD now or....

the screens are terrible in the sin
they crash
the freeze

great fun

also RM had a battery replacemnt programme that decided to skip
so they get worse and worse

PDA? My postie still has a pad. He has only just got a biro to work, can't see an electronic device going down well!
