The cost may put a lot of people off.Come on you Irons0

I think the margins will be less than with previous consoles as the retail price is quite high to begin with. Good luck tho.0

You may also find that Sony will have the listings pulled like some of the other big manufacturers have done for breach of vero."Gort, klaatu barada nikto"

Sony is going to be pulling the listings - they're tracking addresses that purchase PS3s to combat ebay sellers - as told to me from a Sony (and microsoft ) representative, as Sony lose out on potential profit. But we'll have to see if its true. It'd advise against it myself.~*Cerenia*~

i think you are taking a big risk for several reasons,
(a) Wii and 360 and even the small ps2 all came out for the christmas market, therefore there was a 'must have by' date, in that mummy and daddy didnt want to disappoint little johhny on christmas morning. This is not the case with the PS3. Anyone who really wants one will have it pre ordered anyway, those who don't can pretty much afford to wait a week or two.
(b) EVERYBODY will be trying to buy them to sell on ebay, thus the market will be extremely quickly saturated
(c) there will be lots of auction wreckers and time wasters buying and not paying - particularly when demand is met after day 1 by the big stores.
(d) ebay will cancel lots of listings of people selling multiple units - i got VERO'd by ebay and suspended for selling an xbox 360 on ebay the weekend they came out - even though i included a copy of the receipt in the advert and i was selling only one. Fortunately i had other ebay accounts and sources to sell on the other four i had. Bear in mind a two week ban would mean by the time you get back on line they will have went off the boil.
(e) the Wii and to some extent the XBOX 360 weren't very expensive items, thus if you bought a 360 for £300 and sold for £500 you were quids in. Sell a PS3 for £500 and you havent made much particularly after fees and outlay of the cash etc.
(f) If Amazon are getting it tight with supply they will probably cancel four or all five of yours as they will identify you as a speculator.
(g) If Amazon do supply you with all five then its a sign you're pretty much screwed anyway as it would be an indicator that SONY have the stocks to flood the market on day 1.
(h) Back to point (a). With the 360s, pretty much immediately after christmas you could easily get a 360 and the prices bombed back down to just over retail, thus backing up my theory that the lack of a christmas day immediately after launch is going to have a big impact
(i) 'were ever there is a gap in the market i am happy to plug it' - its not plugging a gap its exploiting it - and the window is going to be extremely narrow to do that in.
(j) they are very expensive to start with thus there will be a more limited market than for the Wii.
Not saying you won't make money, not saying there wont be new coverage of how some bloke sold one on ebay for a grand, i just dont think its going to be the easy money that previous consoles were0 -
you CAN sell a PS3 on ebay by meeting strict criteria...
1. You may only offer one PlayStation 3 console.
2. If you are pre-selling a console, your listing must comply with our
Pre-Sale Listings Policy. You must guarantee that the item will be
available for dispatch within 30 days of the date it is listed on
ebay.co.uk
3. You must offer PayPal as the only payment option. The item must
qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection.
4. You may only offer a PlayStation 3 console that you obtained within
the EU. PlayStation 3 consoles obtained outside of the EU cannot be
listed on ebay.co.uk
5. Your listing must include a photo of your purchase or pre-order
receipt. We recommend that you block out any personal information such
as credit card numbers on the receipt to make sure that they arent
visible on the photo0 -
With three sons and a huge number of other youngsters filling up every spare inch of my house it appears that not one of them is bothered by getting the PS3. Every other games shop in town is offering pre order lists, some are even beginning to add in small sweeteners to pre order (nothing major as I'm sure their profit margins are tight).
I compare this to the wii where at any given point they were crowded round the PC trying to track one down purely because they wanted one by a certain date..
I don't think the pS3 is launching at the right time to get major interest. The older gamers will be the ones outside the stores at 3am on the launch date, the younger gamers probably won't have that sort of money, nor are they bored with their wii consoles yet.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I did all that with the one single xbox 360 i had listed on ebay - it was the first and only one that i listed and it still got pulled. if SONY see people making money they will object, and ebay will dance to their tune as soon as they say the word VERO.
Not saying you wont be able to sell one on ebay, i just wouldnt like to be sitting on FIVE for example

Hi all!!
Thank you all for your feedback it is much appreciated.
The way i see it is that i have nothing to lose but only to gain since if i feel i can not sell the ps3 i can the send them back using the distant selling regulation act which i am sure you guys would have heard of. Im not sure how good the margeins might be but profit is profit at the end of the day evene if its a penny.
If eby ban me from listing them then i will advertise them in thebargain pages or on gumtree.co.uk.
anyhow i will keep you updated with regards to this.0
