Hi
I am moving back home next week and want to get broadband installed asap and want two pcs connected to it. Can this be done easily on one broadband monthly charge.?
Secondly, is Tiscali a good provider to go for?
Cheers

Yes it can be done easily. You'll need a router (I have a netgear one and can connect up to 4 PC's) rather than a modem connection. Can't comment on Tiscali, I use Metronet0

You can do it with one modem, if you have to, using Internet connection sharing, but wireless, or cabled ethernet is the best really.

I use one of these Netgear DG834 routers which split the connection 4 ways, just plug each PC in via a standard network cable.
Had it for almost a year, really good build quality & performance :T0 -

I think you wrote the above just to get lots of replies. If not, you don't read much on this site as Tiscali are SO bad and people are forever condemning them.0 -

that's a bit harsh Margaret,
Fruitbat is a relative newbie to the site so may not have read every thread or be an expert at searching for info,
and there are other people on here who use Tiscali and are happy with it,
his question didn't just ask for opinions on Tiscali either but wanted advice on connecting 2 pc's to broadband,
and nothing in any of his posts suggest he only posts just to get lots of replies, I think you are making unnecessary assumptions here!!!I am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Thank you for YOUR pleasant post, 'glad'.
When I subscribed to this site, I had a long look at it before posting. I naturally assumed that others did the same.
Silly me!0 -
Tiscali have a very poor reputation but worse is the fact that they will not allow you to switch to another company (migration) without cancelling your ADSL line in full and then paying for another installation from scratch at £50 + VAT (with no broadband for a week or so).
Are both the PCs you want to connect within easy reach of the telephone point ? If they are, then a normal router can be picked up fairly cheaply. If not, you will want to consider a wireless router.
You will need network cards in both PCs - needing wireless ones if you use a wireless network.
This company sells some affordable routers - although many people have personal preferences as to the best models to buy:

Fruitbat,
I subscribe to ZEN who are good and provide good support for newbies, not the cheapest but they have a good reputation. I also have a router, a Thomson Speedtouch 510 which allows 4 connections - mine has 2 PC's connected and I use one of the other ports to share my printer.
Have a look at ADSL Guide, which should help you out on choosing a desent provider for your needs. They say that football is a religion, if this is true I worship at the Exacta Stadium, Chester0 -
Hi
Thanks for all your replies. I certainly did not post the question for load of replies. I was made redundant three weeks ago, and I am having to move back home while I try and find another job.
I have been on broadband where I rent for 4 years with Telewest, and want to get broadband installed as my mum is complaining as my brother is always wanting to go online.
I thought I would ask which provider is the best and whether its possible to have two pcs connected on the same broadband connection.
One computer will be in one bedrooms and one in another which are not that far away from the telephone point.
All your help is appreciated as dont want to get a crappy connection, as telewest is not available in West Sussex otherwise I would have gone with that as never had any problems with them.
Cheers
