Door to door Utilities salesmen
I don't know if it's just me but it seems like every other time my doorbell goes it's a rep trying to get me to change gas, electric,phone...
I'm really fed up to the back teeth with their pestering "what company are you with" whoever i say their company is cheaper and 10/15 minutes of sales patter...
If i pleasantly decline I get, they get annoyed and say "well, if you'd rather pay more?"
I would rather check on the Internet & make my own decisions in my own time than being hassled at my front door every week,I realise that they have a living to earn but LEAVE ME ALONE:mad:
How do other MSE'rs handle them?

Im always getting someone from EDF trying to switch me over to them, they couldnt believe it when i said no!
Sure they are cheaper then British Gas but i am looking into maybe switching to Ebico. When i told them this, they said they have never heard of Ebico!
Still they left after me telling them Ebicos website!0 -
I never open the door, talk to them with the window slightly ajar, "who are you, which company, we are Neighbourhood Watch territory, just a minute, got the cooking on", them leave them
standing there. Never let them in, no matter what.0 -
  We have yellow postcards issued by the police that say "No Door to Door Salesmen" "We do not buy from Door to Door Salesmen" (we put them up on the door)with instructions on what to do if you get hasstle but we do still occasionally get them. The nonsense they come out with about "we are not salesmen, we are from British Gas (or who ever the company is they are supposed to be representing) do you know your overpaying..." load of old baloney. It should be banned the chaos they cause. We have had some very rude individuals down our road virtually threatening elderly people because they have not wanted to discuss it; for what ever reason.
I say make it illegal its to open to abuse!0 -
Be careful also of marks they leave on your property, signs to the next rep. that say you are rich, friendly, gullible, whatever.
This was and still probably is an old travelling folk custom.0 -
As soon as the door is opened and I can see the ID card hanging from their necks I tell them - before they get to open their mouths - I am on the best tariff and go away , shutting the door without further comment.
Only once, I had a man put his foot in my door. I had been practising a line for years and was so pleased to use it! "My German Shepherd can make it to the gate in under 3 seconds. Can you??" He went - fast.0 -
I tell them I get my leccy from 'Good Energy' (true) as they supply 100% renewable electricity (production powered by from wind, sun or water) and if they can beat that I'll change. They never can....nothing to see here...0

Another classic is to say you work for ENERGYWATCH or OFGEM, watch thier little faces drop to the floor!! If your elderly say your a former employee of the above. They will soon disapear, an objection for whcih they have no answer unless they generally are the cheapest!! It is the online tarriffs where the money is saved and the reps can NOT promote these face2face.
You are all protected by the AES (Association of Energy Suppliers) code of conduct.
Some door 2 door are decent honest people, however the majority are mis-leading the public which tars the rest with the same brush...
Telesales calls are a nuisnace too though this is a much safer bet as calls are recorded.
Cheers

Manners cost nothing, they are only doing the job that they are paid to do.
I always treat people the way that I would like to be treated myself.
There is no excuse for putting a foot in your door however.:money:0 -

People who bully and lie deserve no manners whether part of their job or not and if they are going to do this on my own property then they will get whatever response I choose to use at the time. On the premise of treating people the way you would like to be treated yourself, I think this is inordinately suitable in the circumstances.
I love the German Shepherd one. Will use that next time.0 -
Why not take down the details on their ID badge and tell them you are going to phone up and verify they are who they say they are before you talk to them. Then gently close the door and let them wait... Every minute they're waiting on your doorstep is a minute they aren't exploiting some poor vulnerable person elsewhere.0
