Another postage query

So do you want the entire £2.59 back? If the parcel had arrived with £7.18 paid, would you have contacted the seller stating you were refunding them 18p?
But that didn't happen.
The seller was contacted BEFORE buying as the listing said combined postage. I didn't just ask or assume.
The seller emailed me to confirm the PO had actually quoted an exact price of £7 so that is what she would charge.
I paid the £7.
I got neither first class nor was the postage £7. Not quite sure which bit of that you find acceptable.0 -
I love ebay buyers  !!
Do they ever complain to Amazon,Tesco,Argos or any other company about postage costs?
Do they contact these companies and ask them to combine purchases?
No they dont,so why have a go at ebay sellers. You see the price and agree to it..

I agreed as I was told it was going to cost £7.
EBay is NOT Tesco, or didn't you realise!

£2.59 extra un"taxed" profit on items is quite a lot though. I'm not sure I understand people who do this sort of thing knowing full well their buyers don't like it. If there's one reason not to do it, it's that - where else do they think the money ultimately comes from?
As someone who lists inclusive postage and takes the extra hit on fees, sometimes it's more the principle of it - "I'm doing the right thing, why shouldn't they?"
It's also not as if CA agreed to the service they were provided with - they agreed to a postage price of £7, they didn't agree to the lesser rate. All these people who say "you agreed to it" - well...it's up to the seller, it's their responsibility to gauge postage responsibly, it's not up to the buyer to agree to something they don't know fully until they receive the item. The seller is exploiting a lack of information to skim a bit extra off their buyers and off eBay, which in many other situations would lead to trouble, so why should eBay be different?
Ultimately, it's the people who do this or think it's OK to do this who lose out when it comes to DSRs and evaluations, not the people who stay within the rules or are on the receiving end of sharp practices. It's also unethical and quite often illegal to lie to customers, and moreover, the long term losses from this kind of behaviour usually outweigh the short term gains."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I've seen a list of complaints about QVC's costs - just because there is no mechanism to do so, doesn't mean people don't find other ways to complain. There are whole websites out there devoted to consumer complaints as well, of various kinds. I suggest you look them up before saying something so categorical.I love ebay buyers  !!

You could say it's only on eBay that sellers feel justified in effectively saying to their customers "talk to the hand", treat people as cash-cows, and then wonder why no-one buys from them or they get booted - that's how this comes across."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Im quite interested to hear their reply, if they do reply. It does kind of sound like they may have been given one cost by someone at the PO, then when they went to post asked for the cheapest method and thought they had got a bargain (and an extra bit of cash). For an inferior delivery service
If it was me (as a buyer) I would leave neutral or positive depending on thier reply (or lack of), and stars to match. And as a seller I would expect a buyer to do the same to me.0 -
@ Crowqueen well said!!0

I am known on here for having ago at ebayers who buy and THEN complain about the postage. My motto is - if you don't like the total price - don't bid. Simples.
But in this case - clearly the buyer asked FIRST and was quoted for 1st class. What the buyer got was standard parcels - a SECOND class service.
The seller should, in this case, refund the difference.0 -
I have just had a reply. I am bemused but gobsmacked. I think the other package she refers to is the perhaps the other pair of items, but I am not sure, but know it is not relevant!!Hello, thankyou for your message.
I used some recycled packaging for two same size identical packages, one of which was yours. I am sorry that you feel I have mislead you but I can assure you that at the first instance the PO did indeed quote £7. I visited the post office twice and on the final visit on Monday the postage came out different to the quoted price. I was extremely surprised to find that the first parcel cost nearer £8 and the other as you say came to less, my face was a picture. It was my first attempt at selling items that are of a tricky size and I am at a loss for the varied price system, all that differed was the bubble wrap and the heaviness of the box material.
My main concern was that it arrived to you intact and a lot of time and effort was put into getting your parcel to you that way and the price includes the other packaging used. I do hope you enjoy them. They were an engagement present to me, but it didn't work out and I never got the benefit.0 -
I feel bad for her as clearly she's new to selling. But I am not sure why I should pay for someone else's postage! Is the engagement thing a bit of a heart tug? It was a pair of bowls from a now 'out of print' item.
I can honestly say, that I don't know how or if to reply.0
