Is she in full time education, is anyone claiming child benefit and child tax credits for her?
  • she was working parttime up til october last year... but it was only a seasonable job from rougly march to october at a theme park. her mother was getting benefit for her before this job as she was at college full time. ( her mother recieves full DLA) as is disabled due to a stroke.. she has a younger brother age 5 so i presume her mother will be getting beneifit for him too.

She could claim JSA if she is looking for a job, if she isnt she cant claim that. She wont get any help with rent either

She won't be eligible for JSA as she is under 18.
  • I'm assuming your Husband is her Father? Is/was he paying child support to the girls Mother? Maybe now he could make a contribution to the Boyfriends parents for taking care of his Child, which technically she still is a child? Maybe Daughters Boyfriend could claim JSA if he is actively job seeking and not in Education? Other than that I don't think she can claim anything until the baby is born. How pregnant is she? :-)
  • She was previously at college, and then started seasonal work in March. Given that she is 17 now, am I right in thinking she was doing GCSEs or equivalent at college?

The fact that she left her course in March suggests she didn't complete it.

Her very best bet is to look at completing her basic education. The same is true for her boyfriend if he hasn't already done so.

If she has not completed her GCSEs, then she should recieve funding for them or the equivalent (Level 2) qualifications.
  • yes i am her fathers new spouse... my hubby paid up front over £7000 to his daughters mother 2 years ago for child maintenance money as his daughter was then in college .. althou technically when she started work last march .. her father since then doesnt have to pay child maintenance for her. so thru a lawyers advice the money hes paid upfront will go towards his younger sons upkeep for a few years to come... so really its her mum who holds all the money wev paid upfront ... so she should be supporting her?
  • shes approx 16 weeks preg
