Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 8th February. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Morning everyone - hope you have a better day today Hester. DS1 up early again this morning, so we're cuddled on the sofa with the dogs. Today am not planning on anything except relaxing - its my day off!! House is tidy, washing is done, so will be doing Yoga and snuggling on the sofa. Tea tonight will be mini toad in the holes - made with cocktail sausages and cooked whilst the kids are at school - then I just have to reheat - and will have some left for the freezer. Will have to check the egg and flour situation first though.

Take care in the cold everyone.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

  • Moring esmf73 and all to follow,

I hope that everyone has been managing with the snow, and you have all kept safe and warm.

Jackie, sorry I missed your birthday yesterday. It sounds like you family treated you to a lovely well deserved day.

Flutterby, sorry the hospital was a bit of a let down.

Sorry my mind has now gone blank and I cant remember the rest of the thread. :o But hugs to all those who need them.

With the wind chill it has been down to about -20 here, so absolutely bitter. As its so cold I have been rushing home from work and staying in doors all evening, so I suppose in a way its OS. Very little spending has been taking place.

I will be making some sort of egg fried rice thing tonight, and will try and use up a load of frozen veg that I have.

Have a good day everyone. Stay warm.
  • Morning esmf & all who follow.
Minus 5 here but dry so no ice/frost. I went out for a meal last night which was lovely, but I didn't want to get up this morning, I've been invited to a quiz night on Thursday, but said no, as it means hubby has to walk home, he never complains, but t's so cold it doesn't seem fair.
He has a push-along gritter at work but is fell apart so he's had to grit by hand, his poor hands are red raw from all the salt even though he was wearing gloves. I've finished the knitting soap sacks for a while & now started on some brightly coloured dish cloths, the first one is hot pink!
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Sunflower - sending good luck vibes your way x
Jackie - Belated Birthday wishes sounds like you had a fab day x
Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Still several inches of snow on the ground here but roads are mostly ok, think we had a frost last night so will have to be careful on the roads. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. Work was busy again yesterday morning then went really quiet in the afternoon, it did turn really cold and everyone that came in late morning said it was absolutely bitter - thought we might get some more snow but fortunately we haven't as yet, think that's forecast for tomorrow night and Friday - joy!

Dinner last night was macaroni cheese - was really bland - it had nearly half a block of cheese in it so don't know why - any ideas? Looked in my cookery books and most of the recipes seem to include parmesan as well as cheddar - obviously this would add more flavour but also cost quite a bit more to make, may try that next time or should you use really strong/mature cheddar? Did remember to get the meat out to defrost so tonight it will be stew and dumplings, mash, veg and gravy. Only working until lunch today then I'm off until next Wednesday when I only have to work half day - I'm using up some holiday before the end of the holiday year - have several jobs I want to get done whilst I'm off and of course it's half term too.

    Take it steady everyone x

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Morning all, jolly cold here today but I wore leggings under my trousers to walk the dog so was quite toasty. Off to work in a minute, cauliflower cheese for tea. Cat flap has broken so big draught in hall, that will be DH's task for the day.

Good morning all, was not sure where would be the best to post this, so if this is in the wrong place forgive a newbie.

Doing the grocery challenge and NSDs and doing good so far. Yesterday DD was not at school (pipe leak in school), and we went for a walk, park and library. She played on the computer in the library and wanted to print out a picture (15p) - I explained it cost money and she would not get a sweet from the shop if she had the printout - she said "but mummy I have brought my purse can I buy my own sweet". So I paid for the print out, and she went to choose her sweet - and said "Mummy as I have money which sweet shall I buy you" - I nearly cried (she's 5).
