Tell him to scan his passport and email it to himself (and you).

He has insurance for the holiday, should he have that E11 is it? That is medical insurance is it not?

I told him to get holiday insurance seperate to the holiday but at the time they did him a good deal all inclusive so he took that, he has transport too and from the airport included.

The E111 is now the EHIC; it's a good idea to have holiday insurance as well.

  • Take a photocopy of his passport, and keep in a safe place in case he loses his whilst abroad. This can help speed up a replacement one. Ideally he should take a photocopy too and keep it separate from the original.

Other than that there's not much else you can do but grin and bear it!!

Have photocopie of everything - inc travel insurance!

DS insisted on taking his debit card and had his wallet stolen the first night!:mad::mad:

So taking the bank's emergency phone number with him means he won't have to phone you at 2am!

    Oh no:eek:

He is not taking his debit card, says he is taking cash only, so was thinking of the pre paid card just incase he lost his money, he is only taking his watch, money, passport, clothes, his suitcase will be easily indentifiable on the carousel (we always do that as a family anyway so that is no different to what we all usually do) he has a very old mobile that he is taking, not taking cameras (they all have cameras on their phones) not taking camcorder, says too bulky and does not want to have to worry about it, one towel :rotfl: loads of lynx ( the holiday includes an extra 5 kilos for £3 so he is very happy with the luggage allowance)

  • He WILL spend every penny on the prepaid card.

    Lynx aerosols? On a plane?

Is his watch waterproof and is he able to get a tan through it - or will he take it off to avoid tan lines/burns/water damage and it gets lost/stolen?

And new/securely sealed in a ziplock bag sunblock - because he won't have the cash to spare for the doctor's/hospital if he falls asleep in a drunken stupor and slowly roasts over the next 4 hours.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • I lived where people went on 18-30 holidays so I saw more than most. Sitting by the pool when a young lady asks how long you have been there with your deep tan and you say "18 months" isn't quite what she expects to hear !

The two biggest issues will the be the amount of money the reps get out of him before he has been allocated a room even and the amount of money he spends in the first week while he finds his feet and works out where the best deal are. Of course, no amount of money will ever be enough !

I've seen loads of holidays bottom out because the traveller has nothing left for the last few days. You can't get kids to manage money well in such situations but why not get a prepaid card with a pin number and give it to him. Get him to leave some cash with you and be prepared to give him a little more.

Of course, scan every document and email them around. Don't leave this until the last minute, do it now. Get the European health thing and some decent real insurance.

If you cannot get a local SIM beforehand for his phone, then get a £5 phone and put your important numbers into the phone memory, not the SIM one. Also make up laminated card with important details on it.

    Then don't worry.

Our son started going on holiday as soon as he started working. The culmination was spending last New Year at a full moon party in Thailand with 5 of his friends, at 21 we still worry about him (and will probably never stop)
  • Of course as parents we are always going to worry, but it sounds like you have equipped him well long before he had any idea of going on holiday. You said he does what your OH does with his wallet and he does the family thing of making his suitcase recognisable. It sounds like you have done a good job with him so although he will act stupidly, he sounds as if he knows what he should be doing. I won't say don't worry but try not to worry so much that you have a miserable time while he is away, he will be fine.
  • Are they going to Greece cos they've all seen the Inbetweeners film? Hope their hotel isn't like the one on there :D Most of the nightlife and beach scenes were filmed in Magaluf though as I was there myself last September with friends and recognised a lot of the places. I was expecting sleaze central but was actually impressed how clean it was, everyone was friendly and we all felt very safe, even walking back along the beach front at 4am.

    And now the final frame
    Love is a losing game
