  • I previously 3 year ago had an arrangement with lovefilm and then cancelled due to not using this enough. Then about 6 months ago re subscribed to them as got 1 month free. Worked well to start with had 2 dvd's coming each week as a minimum and i enjoyed it. But within the last 2 months when i have received the dvd's at least one of them doesn't work due to scratches and in some cases there has been black marks going through them. I rung lovefilm to talk about this problem and was looking to cancel my subscription due to these problems, i was told they went through a very good quality control before they are sent out to customers, if this is how they do quality control i'm very worried the scratches were very bad and very obvious and also how can you miss big black marks on a disk?! all the offered me for the inconvenience was 1 month free, considering i had been paying £10 per month for the service i didn't feel this was good enough. Be warned they have good deals and if your lucky enough to get good quality dvd's through then great but after a few months it was awful what was being sent to me. I have since cancelled due to the problems with this.
  • A review of Lovefilm in Feb 2012 on T3 mentions c.6000 titles available

A reply on the Lovefilm site to a question about the number of streaming titles mentions 5500

Two days ago it was 3865

    Today it is 3600

Number of satisfactory answers from Lovefilm as to this reduction - .5
    >We'd love to be able to offer absolutely everything, all of the time.
However, different licensing agreements with studios and distributors
mean that some films and TV series on LOVEFiLM Instant are only
available for a fixed period of time.

Many will return to the streaming service in due course, but because
this period varies by title, we can't give a definite, one-size-fits-all
answer as to when this will be.

We aim to bring you the widest possible choice for the longest available
time, of course, but remember that even if a film or TV series leaves
LOVEFiLM Instant, it will almost certainly be available through our By
    Post rental service.

    No issues, quick sign up.

PS3 app needs improved, it's hard to find things, full hd and surround would be good.

    However overall good selection.
  • Finally today a decent answer from Lovefilm:

It is true that at the beginning of last year we had a significantly
larger quantity of titles available on the service, however quantity is
not the only factor we take into account when we determine what to have
    in our digital catalogue.

With the recent updating of our website there has also been a little
'house-cleaning' regarding our catalogue. We have chosen not to renew a
large number of licenses for titles which have received little or no
customer interest. This allows us to save money and redirect that to
purchasing licences for more popular titles and is ultimately a strategy
to improve the quality and competitiveness of our online service.

    Current number of titles 3589

    Let's hope this strategy works.

Thanks for flagging this Nicking. I'll update the guide accordingly :)

    Many thanks,

  • I don't usually use the online streaming side of LoveFilm, but just get two discs a month. I have found them to be really quick and reliable.

The very first delivery I got had one faulty disc - I reported it and they sent me a replacement immediately before I had even returned the faulty one. I thought it was really good customer service and it gave me good faith in them right from the start!

Have been really happy with the service overall.

  • We changed to Lovefilm Instant about 6 months ago, from the DVD option.

Initially it was fine, but we've hit the limit on what we want to watch and thier addition of new content is pathetic. Currently there are 6 'new' Movies available in the past 4 weeks, and less than 30 'new' TV shows. I use 'new' as the majority of what they are uploading seems to be pre 2010...very few 2012 titles at all.

The second thing that annoys me is thier Customer services...I've emailed them twice and had the basic stock pre-written response from some chap in India, neither response being an answer to my initial question.

If it doesn't get better soon I'll be cancelling...maybe give them a year to update thier stock and try again.

They do not offer subtitles for the deaf. Netflix does. Therefore l Simply request MSE doesn't Support them. In this day and age no subtitles is not acceptable. Even When renting discs they don't give a way of showing if it got Subtitles or not!

We joined recently & have found the selection of new titles to be very poor, it's quite disappointing. After the initial half dozen films ordered we are struggling to find anything to watch and are unlikely to continue after our 3 month deal ends.
We used to use Blockbuster and the choice was much better.
