We were previously using Lovefilm DVD rental for about a year, but stopped last summer as we weren't getting the value from it during the summer months. However we've now brought a new 51" Panasonic TV and Sony 'smart' Bluray player. I got Sony as it had Lovefilm, YouTube and BBC iPlayer. We've again subscribed to LoveFilm on the £10 per month package for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs with 2 at a time. We're now about 7 weeks into this and the streaming is brilliant.
We only watch the Lovefilm streaming on the 51" TV and although the streaming content is not HD, it's as good as the TV or DVD films. Even though we only have a 3.5Mbps broadband, there is no buffering either, after the initial 20 seconds of loading - as long as the internet isn't be used elsewhere in the house for anything too serious. We connect to the router via the mains using 200AV HomePlugs, which is better than WiFi.
The content on Lovefilm streaming is vast, but sometimes difficult to choose the right film as the descriptions are brief and they don't include a certificate rating. Often we've started to watch an unknown film and then had to turn if off as it wasn't suitable for the kids.
A lot of the content is very old. Some of the kids stuff is very old, like original Casper the Ghost. But there is plenty of modern stuff, but not much newer than 2 years old. Some popular modern movies don't stay available all the time. For example, I watch Hangover 1 and now it's disappeared. They don't seem to be adding new content very quickly, so I do wonder if in a few months time that we would have run out of movies that we're interested in on the streaming side. Probably won't be a real problem as we'll be watching less in the summer anyway, but I do hope they keep adding more content for the autumn.
If you like horror films, then there's plenty to choose from. Not too many family films though.
So far (in the 7 weeks) as a family of four, we've watched 71 streaming items and had 12 DVDs through the post. In fact we watch live TV much less now - instead BBC or Ch5 streaming or Lovefilm.
Overall, I'm extremely impressed with Lovefilm as a combined streaming and postal DVD package. If I only had streaming on it's own, then I'd probably give up after six months - unless they roll out more content. But the DVDs allows us to watch the latest movies too and for £10 per month, it's cheaper than going to BlockBusters and using the Library DVDs as we were previously. Streaming also allows my youngest daughter to watch the same movies repeatedly which is handy.
A couple of wishes: They included certificate ratings on the streaming app and improved the interface and categories. Also wished you could search the streaming content online separately to the DVD content, so you could choose the film first on your PC.
Would also be nice if you could view all Lovefilm content before subscribing.
Correction: Just looked at the Action/Adventure section on Lovefilm streaming and there are 14 movies from 2011, so it does have some recent content.0 -
Since writing the reply above, I've been looking more at my Lovefilm account online and I can sort all the streaming content only and watch trailers and choose what films to watch easier than doing this on the TV.0

Hiya, they do have Lost on there, I've already watched 4 episodes. I've also just finished watching the Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
They have quite a few. Was hoping for 24, but can't find it.BrendaG1974 wrote: »For everyone who has tried or is trying LoveFilm, what films/ TV series are actually on there from your expeirence (i.e. not ones they use to advertise, what's REALLY on there!:))
I'd heard from one person that they've got Lost on there but others said no - anyone confirm or deny?
We've got Netflix at the mo and thought about trying LoveFilm Instant to/ instead, but feedback so far on LF hasn't been that great?"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -

On the right hand side, under "LOVEFiLM Instant", click on "With Package". It'll eliminate all the pay-per-view titles from your results.0 -

D'oh, I meant left hand side. Sorry!0 -
Been with love film for years I love them, always get discs sent fast, never had many damaged ones. I have even lost one previously and they were great about it.0

I tried lovefilm for a 30 day trial. Lost, was on there but if i remember right not available for streaming, only DVD or Blu-ray. This means you end up with 1 disc at a time with, for example, 4 episodes on, then you need to send it back and wait for the next discs. This will depend on your subscription but during the trial it was just 1 disc at a time for me!
The streaming wasn't great, and didn't end up watching any streaming stuff because of buffering and freezing. Netflix works great on the same broadband. Ended up getting 3 discs during my trial, 1 which we didnt order, 1 that we watched and one that was 'ordered' by mistake so not totally sucessful on our part.Hopeful optimistic.0 -
I have been a member now for about 8 months. I used to be a member of blockbusters, after I brought a new 3D tv I asked both if they was going to rent 3D films. Blockbuster said they had no plans to and lovefilm had a small stock. So I signed up with love film.
My main moan is that that now they have 82 3D titles and that has been like that since feb 2012. In general its very hard to see what they will and wont rent until the release has gone and asking them if they plan to stock something results in a generic response.
You can not rent any universal Blu-rays from them due to an argument they had.
They don't mention that no one can rent Fox Blu-rays.0 -
I love lovefilm. I really couldn't do with out it now. We subscribed last year when we decided to get it instead of a TV license. I havn't missed TV at all! We only watch what we want and with 3 DVDs at anyone time, we rarely don't have something to watch. It means we've been able to flog off most of our DVDs (apart from the favourites) and have stopped buying them. It's saved us a small fortune!Paid off since 06/05/2012 £50/£4200 NSD May 3/10

Has anyone got any feedback on the Lovefilm game rental service? Don't play my PS3 enough to warrant splashing out £40 on games but for £5 a month ( 1 game at a time ) the rental service might be worthwhile for me? Thanks in advance.0
