Gosh I feel very left out with this Supermodel loving lark.
I have that, and NI Jereym Street and OPIs Over the Taupe and don’t like the way any of them look on me.
They just don’t seem to suit my skin tone (so pale I’m blue); and with my short nails just looks eurgh.
Whereas a dark or bright colour makes my nails POP. I’m the same with pastels, really pale shades or anything frosted.
The bad thing about bights and darks is that chips are really obvious; and as my polish chips within 24hrsi have to change it everyday.

It's definitely all about the skintone. I find that pinky reds don't really suit me but bright reds do...

I will have a go with the vivid violet with FF over it this week. Might do it tonight depending on how I feel after work.

Got the evening to myself so who knows what will happen.

Now I have a bad admission to make. I used to care about skin tone and nail varnish suiting me, then I realised it was a bit like a pair of shoes, and sometimes you just love them, and regardless you need to just wear them. So I do.

Probably not the best thing to be proud of, but hey, it makes me happy. The only thing I really don't wear is yellow or orange, but thats because they are just not colours I would choose to wear either.

    Edit to add...

I am like this with OPI, I feel I should love it, and I know it is a good brand, but l find it hard to dry and to get even no matter how much I try. My next to try will be china glaze, can't go to Sallys before I get paid or my husband may just make me sleep in the garden, LOL.

    Hi all,

Just popped in quickly with some info. & also need some advice if I can please?

First the good stuff: You probably all already know but have you checked out Poundland for Nail Polish?! Been in there today as my friend tipped me off about their cosmetics & I need a new blusher. They had LOADS of NP in there & some FABULOUS colours. They had lots of Revlon, lots of Sally Hansen some called NYC, not heard of this myself. they are quite small dumpy bottles. Also had some OG (Outdoor Girl). The colours were great - everything from pale lilacs, yellows, metallic greens & blues & if anyone is into crackling (Nails, not pork!) they had a lovely Gold crackle colour.

They were mostly good brands, all popped into plastic bags & hung up. Some of them were mixed in with cosmetics which were also hung up. If anyone likes Rimmel eye shadows, have a look. Also had a lot of Almay cosmetics, Sally Hansen lipsticks, lots to choose from.

Now the info. Read somewhere (think on here, sorry am pushed for time) about fixing splits with tea bag paper & superglue. Need to do a repair tonight but does the Superglue break down when you wash your hands etc. does anyone know? I seem to remember trying to fix a nail in the past with Superglue, without paper, & it failing miserably & simply broken down when it got wet.

Any help gratefully received & hope the info helps someone.

    Happy Polishing x

Ps: Still not mastered the photo thingy but I'm currently on day 4 of manicure of totally trashy bright red glitter polish - looks fab. in the sunshine, just like Dorothy's Slippers! It's a VERY cheap polish, about 79p but it does the job!
  • Just ordered 4 new MUA polishes from Superdrug as they have free delivery until the end of today. I got shades 1, 3, 6 and 16

I think you need some kind of membrane to meld everything together which is where the teabag comes in. I have tried with just glue in the past and because the split is already there the nail is already weak so will just split again.

I'm not too sure about superglue but the nail glue I bought dries in 3 seconds and is a similar effect to superglue. i would say though that I've had this on since last Sunday and it has withstood about 12 showers, 2 baths and a pole class! Not to mention numerous amounts of nail varnish remover :)

    Thanks polesalot.

I'm sure I read it on this thread about the tea-bag paper trick using nail glue & another poster said they'd done it & just used Superglue.

Anyway I'll give it a go later this evening with Superglue as I don't have any nail glue.

Spoke too soon about red glitter lasting well... just bashed nail on car door & half of the polish on my left middle finger has come clean off...

On the plus side it's fully exposed the split so might get away with touch up after repair. If it looks too manky I'll take the lot off & re-do with my cheapo Aldi version of Supermodel, bit classier than red glitter eh? :)

What I do is firstly put some nail glue over the split. Then all over the nail and stick the teabag paper on. Then put clear nail polish/nail glue over that and wait for it to dry. When it's dry, you can paint over it with nail polish. HTH.
