Yay finally success. Have been having a play and managed 3 water marbled nails (no pics tho as have to take it off for work. Do they not appreciate nail art?!).
Have also got a better varnish remover which is removing everything and had a play with a pot of nail glitter. I like very much!!0 -
ladies i succumbed and bought the Hemler from ikea ... just waiting to get it built up now ... i love doing my nails and was really gettting kinda annoyed with keeping everything in boxes

I can't imagine having to tone my nails down for work. You must be constantly changing them. My boss gave me a set of No7 varnishes a few weeks ago so I take that as positive encouragement!
Glad to hear you cracked it with the water marbling, the sky's the limit now...0 -

Yay I've ordered Hefesto! I've been keeping an eye on this seller for a couple of weeks, I missed out on Hefesto last time she listed it. I'm skint at the moment so I sold a Kipling Monkey to get some cash in my paypal account in case she got some more in stock. Who needs a monkey on your handbag when you can have Hefesto? More to the point, who buys Kipling Monkeys when there's nail varnish to be had?0 -

First off can I just say WOW this thread moves fast!!!iamashoppingaddict wrote: »Hi picchinails,
Lovely nails and i like your writing style too.
You have some mad skills.
I am new to nails and am learning but my biggest downfalls are..
Clean up. I can’t make the finished nail look as crisp and the online blogs (except THAT one, I can get that look every time ) irritates the *&^% out of me.
Any crack or wear and, without thinking, I will pick at the nail polish until I suddenly look about and see the parlour covered in nail varnish chips - It must be bad for the nails to be digging and pulling at them. Also it looks horrible, what’s the point of spending time and effort to make them look lovely if the other half of the time it looks like you have been using them to dig a hole in the garden.
Fiddling with them. I find I worry at them when they get over a length, mainly my thumb and little finger. Both are very curved nails and I absent mindedly rub one under the other (only on the one side curiously) caused me to break the little nail yesterday.
So my goals today:
File them down a bit to stop the nail rubbing
Take off the half picked off Red stamp from yesterday.
Give them a really good moisturise and a warm oil soak.
Tidy up some snags I have on my little finger and thumb.
Slap on any old polish and spend the afternoon trying to perfect a nice crisp finish.iamashoppingaddict wrote: »It's smudged and the stamp isn't crisp. Humph ...... Maybe I'm just punching above my weight.
Can you tell I'm upset!!! Honestly I'm stooopid sometimes!starrystarry wrote: »Yeah you need to work fast with stamping. If it's smudged, you might be pressing down too hard. We could do with Lady S, she's the stamping expert (she inspired me to have another go at it when I was beginning to despair).
Hey again iamashoppingaddict =D
My writing style…wow, I need to really work on my grammar and spelling, I have gotten a few comments about it on my blog… It made me a little sad but some people are just party poopers. Thank you so much for the kind comments you totally balanced out the party poopers
I am a wee bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my nails so if I get a chip, a brake or if my Seche Vite shrinks the hell out of my mani I have to take it off or it bugs me all day, what can I say I breath in too much acetone :rotfl: While we are on the subject of acetone I saw in another post that your acetone is only 2%. That is fairly weak and it will make clean up harder but I would not suggest you get pure acetone as you could overexpose your self and the stuff is very drying for your nails and cuticles. Remember to wash your hands after using acetone and to oil up after.
Onto your stamping problems, uploading the pic was a fabulous idea, thank you. I think you have a few things going on. The first (and most common culprit) is pressing to hard, just like starrtstarry said. I think this is the case especially on your thumb.
Another thing is that it looks like the white polish you are using is not think enough yet. Are you using the Konad SP in white? Sometimes stamping polishes are not thick enough when they are new. Leave the top off for 10 minutes, replacing the top every two minutes to give the polish a good shake and see if it thickens up a bit.
I keep two different black and white polishes on hand, a super thick one and a slightly less thick one. I use the thick polish for large, striking designs, like clouds or swirly patterns this way the pattern will come out super pigmented. And the less thick polish for delicate designs with thin lines; as the thinker polish dries to fast for thin lines and delicate designs to be picked up effectively.
Konad and speed… Don't worry about how you slap the polish onto the plate, this is the part where you can't go wrong. Slap the polish on anyway you like it will make no difference. The difference come from the moment you scrape, once you scrape have you stamper close at hand so you can pick up the stamp quickly, remember you do not have to press hard, just touch the stamper to the design. If you are still having problems picking up the design and you are sure you are moving fast enough make sure your stamper is clean and free of oil by cleaning it with a bit of acetone, if you still can't pick up a design try to VERY LIGHTLY buff the stamper with a very fine nail file.
Let me know how it goes, and if you have problems let me know. Don't give up yet, you are new to it, the first time I stamped it was a mess but I loved it anyways =DI *need* that fluffy flocking powder.
I wonder if it would work to stamp a pattern then just flock that - like flock wallpaper? I may leave it to someone with better skills to try starrystarry wrote: »I had a bit of spare time today so I've marbled, not done this for a while.
MulberryPeony wrote: »Hello picchi - love the flocked nails.
I've posted some swatches of Hidden Treasure on my blog if anyone is tempted 1008hollywalkpark.wordpressdotcom
Also had a try at making one of the Nails Inc sprinkles but I've not got that on the blog just yet. I can't wait for these to diffuse into the cheaper brands.
Very very temped to pop into Boots and spend my points on some nail polish....Painted my nails all with a variety of polishes and finishes ready for experimentation. While they were drying I got everything laid out.
I really enjoy the set up, getting everything just so.. It’s a bit of an event, my favourite part

Settled in for an extended play.
Took off the plastic protective cover and painted off the first block, scraped and stamped. Did not collect any polish. No fear, thought the plate does not like this particular polish.
45 mins later, I have used every single polish I own, changed the scraper to a Credit Card and tried a variety of methods such as faster application, slower application, more polish, less polish. Nada.
As a control I took out the hello kitty plates my mate gave me to cut my teeth on. Worked fine.
I think the cut groove is to shallow and as such it’s not reservoir deep enough to hold adequate polish to transmit the design.
Gutted.
Can I ask which plates you where using, I have some BM plates and some of the designs are just unusable, like you said the deigns are too shallow. It's a shame as most of the designs are fine but good lordy does it p1ss me off.0 -

Might buy a lottery ticket tonight
Can you please buy one for me too? I'll pay you back. I want at least three of these sets but can't even afford one right now http://www.modelsownit.com/nails/nail-polish/box-sets.html
With my luck, if I buy a ticket I'll either lose it or lose my moneyThat is, if I don't break a bone on the wet steps
