Youi're very wlecome rachel. I have been using this combo of Nail Envy and LD file for a few years now and my nails are in great shape. Which cuticle oil are you using?
I'm using a boots one at the moment, occasionally using the Avon Grow Potion.0 -
Can i be cheeky and ask for some nail polish advice please?
Im currently in the process of growing my nails (been biting them since being a child).
I want to buy some nail polish so I have it to look forward to.
How do you figure out which colour will suit?
I have no Idea what brand or colour to go for.
Also due to biting them for years my nails will no doubt break very very easily.
Can anyone recommend something that may strengthen them as they go? Maybe something that goes on under the polish?
If Im honest i don't even know how I should be shaping my nails as they grow lol. but I am very excited at the prospect of finally having long, lovely to look at nails.0 -
I've caved in and ordered myself a Helmer unit from Ikea for my stash. Apparently it holds upto 500 polishes...think I may fill half of it
Looking forward to next weekend as it should be here by then.0 -
Hi rainbow, I started off with lots of pinks as I liked the colour. But if I was you I would have two or three cheaper polishes to play with. Miss sporty, NYC, Technic from Bodycare, Barry M, collection 2000.
I just put the bottles near my fingers to see.0 -
Rainbow, I had a couple of weak nails and Sally Hansen does various nail strengthening treatments .You can use them under polish . Now I always use basecoat and topcoat and nails are much stronger. Polish stays on much better than when I didn't bother with basecoat etc . I have lots of colours, most of them unexpensive but a few of the more expensive ones too . I like purples ,greens, pinks etc. Have fun !0

Thank you rachel. I'm using OPI Avoplex at the mo but only because I've received it in kits from QVC. I'm looking for a cheaper alternative. Have a 3.5ml bottle on the go so once this is gone will have a look at these two products you have mentioned.RainbowDreamer wrote: »Can i be cheeky and ask for some nail polish advice please?

If you have a look at opi.com or Lena White there are "Try It on Studios" where you can click away at the colours and see what will suit your approximate skin colour. I have quite fair coloured skin on my hands and can wear any colour really though I don't particularly like matallic gold and silver shades or teal/green colours. Not a huge fan of sheer shimmery shades either. Am repainting my nails at the mo and am gonna be wearing $OPI Don't Feed the hand Models which is a nude.
If you only splurge on one product to strengthen your nails I would go for the Leighton Denny crystal nail file. This seals the edges. My nails have been in much better condition since using one.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

CND solar oil is cheaper than Avoplex and just as good. I think Look Fantastic have it.As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again0

When I grew my nails four years ago (previously always had acrylics having been a nail biter since childhood too) I massaged a cheap hand cream in and around my nails/fingertips 3 times a day. It doesn't matter what you use for this as you're improving the circulation which will help the nail bed.
I also used a buffer weekly so my nails were shiny, which made them look nicer while growing. Get a crystal nail file, and gently remove any jagged edges so there's no temptation to nibble at it.
My nails are extremely strong now and I have to cut them regularly as they grow far too long! Good luck - I did it and you can too:hello:

then got bored, and covered it with a coat of sparkly glitter...

then spent forever doing my nails because I didn't know what to do and ended up with neon blue, with a technic mermaid top coat

Then got bored again, and threw another load of glitter on top, with then again more technic mermaid
