  • The interview was fine, I had two women and they were lovely. The questions were just as you thought, based around the competencies. Tell us about a time you worked with computers/as part of a team etc. I really liked the job, the environment is casual and everyone is very friendly.

Everyone who started in April got kept on (if they wanted) at the end of September. Most of us are now working full time in the contact centers.

Yeah we all had heard horror stories about the contact centers and thought none of us would last. I was utterly dreading it especially since I hated talking on the phone. It's actually completely fine, we were all pleasantly surprised. If I had a choice I'd probably still like to do back office work though since I think I'm personally better suited for it. I don't mind staying in the contact centers though, it's really not bad at all.
  • Hi, has anyone one heard back about the AA/AO jobs in Preston?

I had an interview before Christmas and my application is showing as on hold.

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

I know this post is from last year but I am one of the new kids applying for the same job this year at Waterview Park.

I have my interview coming up in a few days.

Can anyone tell me what your interviews were like? Were you just asked basic questions based on the competencies? (your experiences of working in a team/customer focus etc.)

Also, what was your experience like working with HMRC? Are you still there now? Or have you left?

    Thanks for any advice. :)

    Hi,

Just wanted to ask how your interview went. What kind of questions did you have if you don't mind me asking. My interview for the same post if on 19th January (applied in Preston office), pretty stressed about it.

Do you know your result already?

    Thanks

    Hi Kingita,
I had an interview at the Preston office 2 days ago (16th) so here's what you can look forward to:

You'll arrive 20 mins before the appointment and have a few forms to fill in - CRB form and a couple of others just asking for basic info - name, address, nat ins number etc.
When they're ready for you you'll be called into a room with an interview panel of 2 people (probably).
When I went in they told me they were only going to ask me 3 questions but it seemed they asked at least double that.

The questions WILL be solely based on the comptencies - teamworking / customer focus / effective communication. They will ask questions about those skills (easy bit) and will want you give examples of when you have used those skills in a real situation (not so easy t.b.h - memory block time!).

The 2 who interviewed me were great and it was quite a relaxed atmosphere. I usually hit a nervous patch during an interview and can feel myself getting a bit tongue tied or the bottom lip might tremble...lol.. - this is the first time it hasn't happened :)

The interview itself is 'supposed' to last 15-20 minutes. When I came out of mine one of the HMRC staff there said I had been in for quite a while (longer than most - nearly 30 mins),,,,I don't know if thats a good thing or bad.

Honestly - don't stress about it. I HATE going for interviews but the one I had at HMRC was a good experience.
Be prepared with your answers and you should be just fine.

    Good luck !:)

They didnt ask me anything about the HMRC or what the purpose of it is, they started out by asking what im currently doing and then quickly moved on to questions like example of when you have worked as a team>provided excellent customer service>communicated a difficult message etc

    good luck

    No. it wasn't mentioned.
At the end of the interview I asked when the 4 week training was due to start and I think they said February, so I assume it would be in the next week or two when we'd hear if we had been successful.

For the feedback just keep checking emails and on the civil service login site, maybe.?!

The last set of interviews are on Monday, so I guess it could be any time after that.

They said that if successful they are going get back to us mid Feb and the appointment itself is going to be shortly after. If unsuccessful it process will be longer and they couldn't give any date.

    I hope it went well.
