HMRC AO job Washington Waterview Park

I have been accepted for the AO job at Washington as well now (after a long time incl. getting crb from Australia) but I have a start date of 2nd April not 26th.
My problem is getting there. I live in Newcastle and it will take me an hour on public transport to get to Waterview park. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any easy way of getting back after 9. Is anyone else getting there via public transport.0 -
I got the job too!
Just wondering what the dress code is should I just wear a suit without a tie?0 -
I have worked for HMRC for 23 and a bit years (OMG !) and the only time I ever dressed smartly for work was when I had F2F contact with public from 1988- 1992.
In my current job, I wear trainers, jogging bottoms and a T Shirt (clean !) everyday as I dont have F2F contact, the way I think of it is "Would I NOT dress like this in public ? - if the answer is yes dont wear it !"
You can wear what you want (within reason of course) provided it is clean, T Shirts without offensive slogans, and most importantly you smell nice - I can tell you its not nice working with someone with a personal hygiene problem they are unaware of !
Enjoy your time with HMRC and leave before you become institutionalized (That was my plan but I failed miserably ! - I enjoy my job but more importantly enjoy the people I work with).0 -
Thanks Antonic! :beer:0

Hi I know these are old posts but just wondering if anyone knows if before you start for HMRC you are sent a CRB check. Some people with the same scores as me are being offered positions for liverpool at present but a few have had the checks back, I had same scores but have not had one. does this mean I cannot receive an offer without first having received this through the post?
Many thanks0 -

You wont receive an offer if you don't clear the crb check. It might just take a while getting back to you though. I got mine back within a week but for my friend it took nearly 3. You can always just call and ask whether or not they've seen it. They might have seen it and not posted it back yet or it's on it's way to you. It might not have come to them yet though. Assuming you did it after your interview like I did, how long ago was it?0 -
Hi thanks for the reply, I had my interview back in febuary with my friend and we were both put on a reserve list. she got a crb check done after her interview I never got one at all to my address so am unsure if I have had one. I got the merit list same as her and the same interview scores, she has now received a job offer but I have heard nothing so was wondering if that meant I was not going to get an offer. I think I will email the recruitment team and ask them.

Yeah just ask them. My friend didn't get her offer until the week before I started, I thought she wasn't going to get it. I had already got mine a month before. They really love to take their time with things. I was bugging them on the phone constantly. I had an extra problem since I had to wait for another CRB to be posted to me from Australia as well which took a good few weeks.0 -
Was just wondering if anybody knew if hmrc will disclose what position you are on the merit list?
I know the DWP do this but not sure on HMRC.

Hi there,
I know this post is from last year but I am one of the new kids applying for the same job this year at Waterview Park.
I have my interview coming up in a few days.
Can anyone tell me what your interviews were like? Were you just asked basic questions based on the competencies? (your experiences of working in a team/customer focus etc.)
Also, what was your experience like working with HMRC? Are you still there now? Or have you left?
Thanks for any advice.0
