Thanks for all the help everyone. I live in a bungalow and have used WIFI with VM without any probs; so hopefully it will be okay with Sky as well. If it ain't, I will just get some plugs.

    Hi all,

My OP advised that I have been unable to move my date back with regards my phone. However, I have spoken to Sky today who have advised me that 'Virgin should have advised that it would be better for Sky to take over the line rather that applying a cancellation notice to your telephone service' and this would then have enabled me to move the date back.

I have everything in writing with VM and so would be grateful if someone could confirm whether the Sky advice is correct.

    Many thanks.

If you were on a DSL/National service & not Virgin cable (And I'm betting you are on cable as CW fitted their own CTE-5 instead of using the existing cable & NTE-5) then that would be the case.
However if you are moving from cable to a DLS service,Sky cannot take over the cable phoneline as it does not connect to the BT exchange for one.
Therfore the cable phone line would have to be cancelled & a Number Port ordered if you want to keep your number & a re-activation of the old, unused BT line.

I hope that I am not appearing rude but I can't work out whether the sky advice given to me (as advised in my previous post) is correct or not from your previous posting as highlighted above.

Could you please advise me accordinly.

    Many thanks.

If you currently have TV,Phone & Broadband from VM,then you're on cable.
Cable phonelines aren't connected into BT's telephone exchange & work completely different than those used by BT/Sky ect.You also cannot have broadband on a cable phoneline.

If you were moving phone from BT to Sky,then Sky would put in an order called a "Cease & Re-provide" to BT,who would then arrange for your line to be 'taken over' by Sky.(What the Sky person told you)
This would all be done in the exchange or remotely.

Because VM use a different system & their phones do not connect into the BT exchange,Sky have to request VM to "Cease" your phoneline, they then have to request a 'Number Port' if you want to keep your phone number, then they have to apply to BT to reactivate or install a new line to your property.

Therefore Sky cannot take over the VM phoneline as it is not the one that will be used when you go to Sky,it will be the old one.

So are you saying the sky advice ''Virgin should have advised that it would be better for Sky to take over the line rather that applying a cancellation notice to your telephone service' is incorrect ?
