A query regarding Sky Phone/TV/BB install and are VM correct ?

I am currently with VM.

Moving over to Sky and install happening on different dates this month; one day for the TV install and a different later day/date for the phone line install, which I understand will be performed by BT.

My query is who will provide the b/band modem and who will connect the modem to my phone line ? Will it be BT or Sky (during the TV install) ?

I received a letter during the weekend to change my phone line install to a later date. I phoned up VM this morning to try to get them to move back my phone and bband cancellation date. No probs with moving the bband date but VM say that can't move back my phone line date, because this would cause my Sky/BT phone line installation to be cancelled. Is this correct and if so why ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You'll get your modem router through the post and set it up yourself.

Unless you are paying extra for a home install.

Are you on VM Cable or VM National (ADSL) broadband.

If cable then keeping on you Virgin BB and Phone should not cause any problem with Sky.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Are you keeping your current phone number or getting a new phone number?

I'm keeping my current number. Is this why VM can't move the cancellation date ?

    I'm also on VM cable.

Fair enough but who is going to cable my phone point to the modem ? It is quite a distance between my PC and my phone point.

I would think so. As BT will port the number over from VM.

Your currenct phone point is VM's, not BT's. So ask BT to put their new one near the modem.

The number porting is why they can't change the cancellation date as a cease order has already been put in place for the VM services & a Provide order for the BT services.
If the is an existing BT point in the home,BT will make this live.As for cabling from the phone point to the modem,I'm afraid as far as BT are concerned that's your problem.BT will move the existing phone point at a cost, something like £130,same cost as fitting a phone extension.
When the Sky engineer calls to install the TV,he should run a phone line extension from the phone point to the Sky box.You could always offer him £20 to run another extension from the BT point to the modem.

I used to have a BT phone line in the house before I got VM.

When VM installed their phone line into my home, they didn't put a new phone line box into my wall cos it is an artex wall. They instead just replaced the BT marked box with a Cable & Wirelees marked box and taped over the old BT phone line wires. I can actually see the old taped BT phone line wires hanging out of the C&W box. So can I get them to count this as a VM phone point and so install a 'new' BT phone point or am I out of luck ?

You could try but BT might charge you to fit a new NTE5 or extend it to the new location.
C&W shouldn't have done that, they should have mounted a new CTE-5 master socket next to the BT one,it's against Ofcom regulations iirc.

Thanks. I'll drop an email to Sky to try and create some expectations. At the very worst, it will be no.
