And - to saintjimmyswine...
Yes, "slavery" is an emotive term - but it is also an elastic one and one that you may be ina position to sneer at the use of; someone on the receiving end of the push into the "wonderful" (unpaid-but-yay-you-will-get-a-reference/recent-experience-and-your-travel-expenses-covered-I]possibly[/I) position will definitely see it rather different than you.
Yes I sneer at the use of the term slavery. It is not slavery and to say it is stretches the word elastic somewhat. I have worked with people on this Work Programme (in the larger definition rather than the Maximus/A4e Work Programme element of the Work Programme) and it does work and provide opportunities. Not for everyone of course, some simply wont engage with it and for some it is of no use and for some they are put with an employer trying to get free labour.0 -

And everyone on the Work Programme works for an employer? NO!GotToChange wrote: »This programme is for the benefit of the "employer", not the "employee". It is blatantly clear.
This has been discussed at length all over the web.0 -

Well if its been discussed on the web that must be a balanced debate with representation from all parties including those who have benefitted. There are employers who are taking it seriously and not simply using it to get free labour.0 -

How far into the WP will this be?saintjammyswine wrote: »You do between 2 - 8 weeks work experience at up to 30 hours per week.0 -

....you're losing me....
?
I am referring to the Work Programme in it's broadest sense (mainly under A4e banner -*makes cross symbol*); the work experience I mean is the "work-based activity" that those on the WP (referred by the JCP) may have to undertake....0 -

I am not losing anyone. You are all talking about working for free on the WP and I have been on it since August and I have it confirmed that no one goes to work anywhere unless the company actually have a job and just want to trial you for a week. No talk of a work placememt or work experience at all and I have that in writing from the Ops Director from the provider.GotToChange wrote: »....you're losing me....

The wider Work Programme includes the Work Programme (confusing as they have the same name!!) which is the Maximus/A4e/CDG programme that you are on for 2 years. It includes Pre Employment Training, Work Experience, guaranteed interview and if the customer gets employment they are supported until the end of the 2 years by the main contractor (as listed).0
