The absolute minimum the employer must agree to before they can have people on work experience is that they will give them an interview at the end of the experience. Preferably for a current vacancy but at the very least it offers interview practice in a real company.
but they do not do that where I am at all as I have it in writing

I am not losing anyone. You are all talking about working for free on the WP and I have been on it since August and I have it confirmed that no one goes to work anywhere unless the company actually have a job and just want to trial you for a week. No talk of a work placememt or work experience at all and I have that in writing from the Ops Director from the provider.

OK - I was losing you then....
I thought that we were at cross-purposes somehow as you were disagreeing with me quite vehemently, when I had thought that we were coming at it from the same angle.
    ?
From what you say - and is evidenced by the reporting of the WP across the forums and national press and other media - different providers may take different routes to get people [STRIKE]off benefits[/STRIKE] into jobs, and some of these routes may be less than moral and are hardly (one of the main aims of the providers) "sustainable" or "confidence building".
Or are we not in agreement on that?

...and again..... I'm not doing well in being clear am I?
    :)
If I understand you, the forced "work experience/extended interview/cheap labour" etc etc doesn't happen with your provider and you have been assured so by the "Ops Director".
    That's good then.
    :D
(Although saintjammyswine probably won't think so....)

Oh no (this could be a Big Bang Theory-Leonard-Sheldon moment....).

As an aside - I have just carried out a wee (as in small, not pee) experiment (one of the theories being that it doesn't take a WP provider to find unpaid work/work experience - take your pick....):

Via the DWP/JCP website a position is featured for a Retail Assistant with a wage quoted as "Nil" - and the details "specifying" that this is a Work Experience position for 20 hours per week for an 8 week duration/for a Charity Shop.

To apply; Contact Jobseeker Direct - 0845 etc etc

    Call to JSD -
My initial intention had been to query with the call-handler quite why and how this be allowed to be "advertised" - but he seemed so young and innocent - and Liverpudlian - that I asked to be directed to the higher-ups. Fail.
In order to establish "my" eligibility, I am required to check with my "local" JCP, even though the "vacancy" is being handled by another JCP. He gave me the number of the other JCP - which when I called, turned out to be the "employer" (who is NOT to be contacted by applicants).
    *sigh*
So another call, to the other JCP national line - again 0845 -with option for "any other" being no. 7 with no shortcut and the standard # s/cut resulting in the call being dropped.
Directed to "my" JCP and asked about this "vacancy".
She gave me some details but then went away to check something. Called me back to advise me that this is aimed at 18-24 year olds but they cannot say that (I have seen some that do, actually) - but there may be a way for the rules to be bent.
Oh joy. Thank the Lord I don't actually want this "job".
It would be a 16 mile round trip, for no wage, no expenses and out on your ear after 8 weeks (but oh, what was that sjs - a reference . Oh yes. And that lovely charity shop smell day after day. Ugh.)
    This proves my point exactly.
    And is not over yet.

  • I see - my limited knowledge betrays me then I suppose.

P--- up and brewery come to mind.
Seriously, if they cannot even make the system clear, what hope is there?

Maybe they should be in charge of MOD procurement?!

OK, from my previous post ....

"One example of someone for whom this was of benefit was a guy that had been in trouble with the law (a lot) and so didnt get many interviews and fewer jobs. He came through the training, got employabiilty skills & a CSCS card. He then went through the work experience, found a trade (groundwork) he really enjoyed. The foreman of the gang was really pleased with him and he has been taken on. His mum told him to stop wearing his hi-viz and boots when coming home etc. and he told her that he wore it to prove to everyone else on the estate he could hold down a job."
That is one example. Another is from Logistics Co that provided 2 4 weeks experience and have taken people on through this route that both sides have said would not have happened without this.

Sorry for the cutting of the post BTW.

I havent got into Big Bang Theory so dont get the reference, sorry.

Re: reference etc above. If this is a direct recruitment offering work experience for nothing then it falls out of anything I have had dealings with and from what you have written above I completely disagree with it. It is not through the Work Programme as that offers support (supposed to), travel costs and a structured work experience activity.

Well - we agree on something.
    :)

TBBT is an acquired taste, that's for sure. Being a bit of a science nerd, I adore it. (Was also v pleased when it (BBT) was an actual answer on University Challenge this week.. which I was able to answer - plus one other throughout the entire programme...)
Sheldon is a veeeerrrrry clever and will lecture a little with the least provocation - so when someone asks an innocent question, Leonard will try to stop them before it's too late and then groan as Sheldon starts reeling off statistics, data etc etc above and beyond the answer needed...

Back to topic - do you know how to get to the higher-ups in charge of the DWP/JCP "job" listings?
    (I have several [STRIKE]complaints [/STRIKE]suggestions....)
    :)
