You do between 2 - 8 weeks work experience at up to 30 hours per week.

How many of these "positions" actually require 8 weeks of training to do competently I wonder? Let's face it, most of these placements will be into roles where the learning should be on the job and of minimum duration for the average person - and equally, if there is a position within the organisation to be filled, then it should be done so with a wage-earning, potentially long-term employee.

Slavery in it's truest sense it may not be - exploitation it certainly is!

It includes Pre Employment Training, Work Experience, guaranteed interview (as listed).
No one has told me any of that. What is the guaranteed interview? How can they do that?

Not many of the positions you are talking about require 8 weeks of training. Thats why they are not all 8 weeks and they are not all shelf stacking. The ones I have been involved in have been in Hospitality, Logistics & Construction and have ranged from 2 weeks to 3 weeks in length. When there is a position to be filled the employers are using this to effectively interview people who may not have got an interview through 'normal' routes and have taken people on that would not have had the opportunity. They then become a wage earning employee.

The wider Work Programme includes the Work Programme (confusing as they have the same name!!) which is the Maximus/A4e/CDG programme that you are on for 2 years. It includes Pre Employment Training, Work Experience, guaranteed interview and if the customer gets employment they are supported until the end of the 2 years by the main contractor (as listed).

There is no mention in my experience of the "Work Programme" (national) being anything other than the replacement for Flexible New Deal - or any other of the incarnations of recent years.
Are you saying that people are referred to the WP by JCP and then have to be thinking also about the work programme within the WP?
Bit of a lack of clear delineation if that is the case....
not a good idea for the "[STRIKE]great unwashed[/STRIKE]", I mean "Unemployed"

When I refer to the placements/work experience, I am meaning the positions that people are put onto - this is where LadyMissA and I are at cross purposes I think (hope).

The absolute minimum the employer must agree to before they can have people on work experience is that they will give them an interview at the end of the experience. Preferably for a current vacancy but at the very least it offers interview practice in a real company.

It is confusing and they should have had 2 names for it!!!

The Work Programme that people are referred to from JCP is the one with the work experience etc. The raft of measures along the Get Britain Working theme is called the Work Programme and this 'Work Programme' is part of it.

I haven't referred to any "positions" as such - and nor do I suppose them all to be shelf-stacking...
You are repeating what you said yesterday wrt these long-drawn out interview processes, which I still fundamentally disagree with for my previously stated reasons.

ive been 2 my appt today and i was seen on time. Lunchtime must be a quiet time.;)

I have been asked to go on a 2 day classroom course. City and Guilds something to do with the Care industry if anyone knows. Its not compulsory but she said it would be a good idea to go so i will go along. This is in 2 wks time. Did the usual jobsearch and made a couple of applications with her.

Another thing the jobcentre want your provider to stamp your drop and go piece of paper now to say you have attended your appt. I didnt know. The jobcentre are checking to see you have attended.
    :footie:
  • And that is why this forum is good sometimes. We disagree about this but are able to discuss it. I have worked with people and have seen it work though.

I see - my limited knowledge betrays me then I suppose.

P--- up and brewery come to mind.
Seriously, if they cannot even make the system clear, what hope is there?
