Problem after having central heating powerflushed

i've had my central heating powerflushed on friday and it's opened up a whole new world of pain

the system has a crackling/popping sound in the pipes and radiators and the boiler makes a horrendous humming sound when it fired up saturday morning, after a while it stops..:(

whats more worrying is that my wife ran a bath and when she'd finished and turned the taps off you could hear the sound of running water in the pipes and radiators:cry:

No sign of leaks and the boiler holding it's pressure...

any ideas??

it was fine until the powerflush :(

How long was it flushed for - in terms of hours that is?

Sounds like you need to get the power flush operative back to explain himself.

Have you bled the radiators, could be air in the system

    Hi.

You have a combi I think. It works ok for hot water?

Did the powerflush include the combi?

Was it tested after flushing to see if all was well?

Do you know what chemicals were used?

    As above get him/her/them back.

Air in the system which can be removed by repeatedly bleeding the radiators. You will also have to top up the boiler with water to get the CH system to 1.5 bar ( assuming combi and check your manual as some systems use a different pressure). Often there is an automatic bleed valve which may have been left closed after the powerflush....unscrew( do not remove) the black plastic cap at the top.
All this is the responsibility of the operative, get him back.

ok the guy's coming back on monday morning :D

as for the pump rodger196...oops.... i thought'd he'd forgotten to put the black plastic screw cap back in...so i screwed it back in hand tight :(

i've unscrewed it a few turns ...now to see what happens..

1 radiator on the landing is tepid..not hot like the others

it's one of those with the dial..no bleed valve..he's going to take a look at the TRV?

    thanks guys:T

It would be unusual for a rad not to have a bleed valve. If there is not one at either end, have you looked at the back of the rad at each end?

Didn't see one..i'll have another look the hot water goes in one end but doesn't seem to go past the entry point into the radiator and nothing comes out :( it's either still full of sludge or something else...hydrogen?( see below)

Looks like the air might not be air but hydrogen caused by corrosion, i read on another website (can't remember which one ) and someone describe this might be the cause of the crackling/popping sound/ running water sound and noise from the boiler because it's moving around the system.

he said light a match and turn the rad key and you should get a pop pop pop sound...if it was.

i tried it and got the same thing... time to change the rad methinks

Time to stop playing with it and wait for the bloke to come back tomorrow. You paid for him to do a job which has not resulted in a satisfactory conclusion. If the rad has got sludge in it then the "cure all" (ahem) powerflush hasn't worked and he needs to finish what you paid him for. If he as much suspects the slightest gerfingerpoken then he would be within his rights to walk away and leave you with it. Patience laddie.

Oh and you haven't answered my question in post 2 BTW - you don't have to but it would be nice if you could. Ta.

He used powerflush FX2 professional then added fernox inhibitor?

he took the radiator in the hallway off then connected the pipes...i assume it would go throught the boiler?

the system seemed fine until the next day...then the problems started..run the hot water , the boiler seems to make a small bang??? need to get the pump checked out too :(

flushing seems to have done more harm than good...for my wallet anyway :D :rotfl:
