Saturday and Sunday 4th and 5th February - what small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. :)

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Happy weekend everyone! The weekend is here and its time to relax - ish! I am determined to stay in as much as I can!

First of all I would like to thank Martin :money: for the wonderful Ideal Home Ex tickets, I have never been, have always wanted to go and thought this was a great opportunity. So thank you very much.

I have sorted through things and now have a must get rid of pile and a 'am going to list and if it sells :j' pile.

Well my list for today:

  • Morning, and thanks for starting us off lostandnervous.
I've woken up with a bit of a hangover this morning, and have to take ds to a party at 10am which is a bit unfortunate. Perhaps I should have thought more before cracking open the cider last night.
Anyway. I'm dreading the snow later - I haven't recovered from the trauma of being snowed in for almost a week last year, but at least I don't have to drive to work.

    Here's my list for today:
:) checked bank account - done
:) checked for surveys - done
:) collect meat order from my local butcher
:) take ds to kids party and make sure I don't buy a bacon butty there
    :) catch up on flylady
:) take kids out to visit friends later
    :) meals from stores
:) catch up on washing and use airer not dryer

There will be more no doubt but I can't think at the moment.

  • Hi Everyone, especially to Lost, thanks for starting thread.
Well thats us officially moved and back in the land to technology (internet on!).
Had a lot gone on in the last few weeks, this seems to have been the longest move ever.
Good news is I have been offered a job that I don't need a car for and is 30 mins walk from home. Means OH can use my car to get to work and doesn't need to buy another. Bad news is I can't start until references and CRB comes through. (prob 2-3 weeks) Have taken a wage cut but should be more hours and more sociable hours and not spending £100 a week on petrol will help. :j
Have also transfered my Bcard balance onto a flexible loan (18.9% instead of 26.9%).
So back onto the MSE bandwagon now (Have spent loads on house stuff this last couple of weeks!)
Try and manage a NSD today. Don't even need to leave the house as pooches are still in kennels. :(
Food from stores (OH away this weekend so I can eat more cheaply).
Paint downstairs back room then I can move dining table and fridge freezer into it from the living room. Carpet was revolting with stains and holes so have ripped that up and sanded floor. Will stain it and get a large rug from Ikea, cheaper than a carpet and easier to clean and replace with the pooches paddling over it.
    Check for surveys.
Heating on low and wrap up.
WM on next, will dry on airer next to radiators.
Am charging Kindle now whilst on laptop.
    Check for surveys.
Chop 2 foot off a pair of curtains and hem to make them fit our bedroom window. (They could do with being a few inches wider but will recycle for time being).
Unpack bits as I pootle about.
    Plan my garden. :D
    Happy weekend everyone.

  • Morning all. It's a bit nippy outside and not a lot better inside either. We've still only got three heaters on (livingroom, hall and landing) and these are all at a low setting. It's a case of wearing lots of layers in this house!

    So far:
    • lovely warm and filling porridge for breakfast
    • fed and watered the chickens
    • made a fleece jacket for one chicken who's decided to moult in this weather  - used fabric and velcro from the sewingroom stores
    • checked banking :eek::eek::eek:
    • checked for surveys
    I will also:
    • bake a coffee and walnut battenburg - all from stores and marzipan given to me by a colleague
    • bake a batch of Millie's cookies whilst oven is on for cake
    • keep an eye on surveys
    • list loads of *stuff* on Ebay
    • encourage DH to do the same!!
    • finish knitting DH's fingerless gloves
    • make newspaper pots to plant the garlic in
    • all meals from stores
    • have 2x NSDs
That'll do for this weekend. I might get into the sewingroom but every time I write it doen I fail miserably. My theory is that if I don't write it here, I might actually get round to doing it ;)

    • checked ebay & Topcashback
    • check through fridge & work things into meal plan!
    • go shopping at some point

    • finish painting bathroom - has been derailed recently!
    • send off things needed for Tesco cc - am going to give "stoozing" a go
    • spend some time with my long suffering oh

  • Hi all
I think Im getting the hang of this.
Apart from changing insurances, sky package, food shopping habits, energy supplier etc I seemed to hit a brick wall. How else could I make/save more cash to put towards my debt free masterplan. Reading through these forums and trying to apply some clever thinking Ive managed this week to:
    1. Carpool the 50 miles each way to work which will save me a fortune
    2. Use a gift voucher I had from Christmas to purchase a badly needed pair of school shoes for son:D
    3. Decided on a nice bottle of red for Friday night, however realised I was near the voucher limit on Morrisons card so topped petrol up for next week, got voucher and picked up a £9.99 bottle on sale 1/2 price for free. :D
    4. Used Martins tips to get free Valentines card and photo book for £2.99, usually would go to shops and shell out £30-40 on card and flowers. :T
All in all pretty productive week, just out of interest does anyone have any advice on how much I should budget for a family of four for a week? I know how much I can get by on but Id like to see if I can reduce it further.
Have a great and money saving weekend
