Jobcentre "work placement" begins March. Help?

I am quite looking forward to starting this on Monday, I have found that if you have a clear idea of what you want to do, and things you could do that would improve your chances (various courses etc) then you can get a lot out of the system. My first appointment when I signed on was at the place where the WP is held, and I asked lots of questions and took home leaflets, and applied for Next Step who provide free courses to those out of work. I went to a few but as my advisor acknowledged I was really overqualified for them. I was a university professor, and in my old uni I used to go on as many courses as I could including the ones in the Careers Dept, so going on a Job Centre CV and Interview course didn't really help much. But I've paid my taxes for 15 odd years in this country, and I am grateful they have provided a safety net of benefits when I ended up out of work. I found that having a positive attitude, turning up professionally dressed and getting as much out of these course as possible is far more beneficial than hating every minute of it. I've also found that even just talking to other people can open doors, I was even offered private work to help proof read some work for someone in the JC, all of which helped get me off benefits for a week.
Having said that, I might be on here ranting on Monday afternoon if I have a horrible time at the WP! I have all my various CVs versions ready to go, for all the different jobs I have been applying for, and I'm ready with my questions to find out what schemes there are available to me.
Maybe you should go live in France, chommage there (JSA) is 55% of your last salary, and they are in no hurry to get you off it.0 -
OP, what you should be doing is signing off forever. You openly admit that you don't want a job. You are therefore taking jobseeking money for false reasons. You aren't entitled to any money from what we know about you.
You've also cost our government money for that degree you took which you will never pay taxes back towards or use. To be a scriptwriter you still need to talk and interact with people which you clearly don't want to do.
Not much really annoys me but this poster does.0 -
My degree was not the practical side of film and tv - just the reading and writing essays side. I did it because it sounded interesting that's all.
I liked scriptwriting but that is not really a viable job is it.
Thanks though.
!!!!!!
I'm even more upset know that you've admitted that you've got a degree in a mickey mouse subject.
No wonder you don't want a job - you've had the last three years doing !!!!!! all as it is - to actually work would be a major shock to the system.
What upsets me about people with degrees in mickey mouse subjects is that they've raised the bar for us poor sods who didn't go to uni for one reason or another so now even the most basic of jobs need a degree.
Oh and if you are a troll - grow up and get a life.2014 Target;

Yeah I don't want a job tbh. I wrote on here hopeing someone could tell me how long you have to be signed off before your claim can start again - then it would be another year before I would have to go to Work Placement.
I would rather just hide away than have a job.
So you wouldnt want to earn your own wage, spend it on stuff you want, have a social life.
Im beginning to think the OP is a troll or just bored, reminds of the poster who wouldnt pay a portion of the bills to her mum.0 -

Don't worry, I don't use much of the money myself, I give it to my parents.
Yeah if I die or get to 65 without earning over 15000 pound a year the debt vanishes.0 -

I'm not a troll, I'm telling the truth. Honestly.
Hardly any jobs NEED degrees so you are being a bit dramatic there. Jobs like shop worker and that that I would have to apply for only require experience - if anything.
Suppose it depends what you are applying for though.
And it wasn't the last 3 years but thanks for your input.0 -

Don't worry, I give most of my money to my parents for shopping and expenses.
I would like to do those things and i would definitely like more money. I find my jobseekers always runs out about a week before I get my next one.0
