Would it be reasonable to claim £4.75 to buy a meal for being away from home for more than 5 hours?

Don't rely on it and rather than risk paying for a meal you can't afford do as the others have suggested and take some sarnies with you.

Mine is not the same situation at all but I ocassionally work 12 hour days (I have an odd job) and although food is provided my gluten free food is often overlooked. Rather than stress about not eating (and falling over due to sugar levels) I now just take GF sandwiches and some crackers or biscuits with me then I don't have to panic.

If you are away long enough you can.
    Living expenses

If you are away from home for more than 5 hours and you have to buy a meal, you can claim £4.75.
If you are away for more than 10 hours and you have to pay for two meals, you can claim £9.30.

    obviously keep receipts etc etc.
[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

Please keep your receipt and give it a go if you are genuinely struggling moneywise and feel entitled...... you never know mate. Best of luck and let us know how the tribunal goes:)

Yep genuine reply, but !!!!!! doesn't it make sense to take your normal meal with you, ok, a packed substitute, rather than eat the straw that MAcD or similar produce? even if it is free. Which it isn't, other's pay for it.

It also reduces the risk of being labled a scrounger:A
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Of Course it makes sense Cyclonebri1, but this particular gentleman/lady has been advised of this many many times on this and another thread on which the same replies were given...

I don't think i've seen people eating sandwiches in the high street but i see lots of people eating in cafe windows.

Seriously? Seeing people eat sandwiches is a regular occurrence to me. Sit on a park bench and eat it. Don't see why you are so insistent on getting a free meal. Life isn't free.

Thanks for that cit_k at post #14
I think i didn't notice it in the quotes yesterday. Multiquote doesn't seem to work so I'm copying and pasting it directly from post #14. Here it is again...

I have the same problem. Many times the gluten free option is the salad.....and that's it. 2 pieces of lettuce and a tomato
