I admire your rule of not dating a friends ex but ask yourself this, how would you feel if you never had any contact with her again? You already appear to have feelings, can you walk away easily? your post said to me that this is a special friendship/relationship if you walk away from this you will end up looking back and regretting it. Go for it, I'm sure when it comes down to it your mate will understand.

you have allready said that you believe in fate, i do too. things (no matter whether they are good or bad) happen for a reason, they say there is someone for everyone in this world but there isnt (as far as im aware anyway) that that person has to be a total stranger. from experience im reminding you that life can sometimes be very short and we have to grab as miuch happiness and joy as we can, from what you have said it doesnt seem as though you were close freinds anyway, ask yourself whether in years to come you are likely to be sat sometime wondering how things would have been if you had gone with your heart and not put others feelings before your own. sounds to me that you were right when you said fate would make sure you met again and indeed fate did, grab the happiness and chance whith both hands and never let it go. good luck.
