Asda, if you've got a pram, presume your on the rob!

Options
Getting a little fed up with going to our local Asda and getting questioned about what I'm doing with my shopping!

I went in very visibly 9months preggers, I had a bag for life and put the stuff in that rather than a basket because they're annoying and cumbersome. Got stopped by a manager whilst I was browsing, got asked if I was going to pay for those items because some nosy so and so saw me (in full view) putting the items in the bag.

Other times I've had stuff on the pram slowly browsing around and been 'reminded' that they're there. I've been in an empty isle just browsing again and a member of staff will pop in and out of the isle seemingly looking for something. REALLY annoying!

I usually pop in for one or two things but end up seeing a few bargains so inevitably I have to stack things on the pram. It's a bad habit really. I know they have to be vigilant but would a thief
be so obvious? What makes me laugh is there's probably someone in another isle pinching allsorts whilst they are busy watching me for no good reason.

I do like Asda and shop there a lot but starting to really put me off now!

a couple were jailed and lost their kids because a child in a pushchair took something from a supermarket

so although you see what your doing as innocent (and dont get me wrong im not saying it aint ) it could be construed the wrong way
Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you

Just pick up a shopping basket at the entrance like the normal people do then.

Job done. ASDA won't treat you like a potential shoplifter and you'll not have to worry about staff keeping their beadies on you.
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."
  • Unfortunatly buggies are used by many thieves to hide goods in, usually in the hood, walk around popping things on top then shut the hood back and hey presto! free shopping!

Also do you really think that putting your shopping directly into a bag for life looks perfectly innocent? the complete opposite in fact.

Shoplifters come in many different forms they don't all look the the same and by shopping the way you do, you do look make yourself look suspicious!

Sorry, but using a bag for life before paying does look suspicious, as does stacking shopping you have not paid for on a pram. Use the basket provided and you will have no problems.

I did that once, on a rare occasion when I actually remembered to get my Bag for Life out of the boot of the car, I just went round the supermarket putting stuff in my bag. After I realised what I was doing I carried on, but I did feel a bit shady ;)

I'd have been a bit offended if someone came up to me and said "Are you going to pay for those?" though... that's just rude.
  • From what you've said about your approach to shopping in Asda, the staff have probably been warned to keep an eye on you.

You are at fault not the staff.

The rest of us manage to use baskets or trolleys when pregnant or with babies. (well I know I did)
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!

I've done the same as the OP, gone in for 1 or 2 things, then picked up a dozen more and popped them on the pram, or on the hood of the pushchair.

It's hard to carry a basket and steer a pram/pushchair at the same time. It's even harder to pull or push a trolley and steer a pram/pushchair at the same time!

If people have ever thought I was on the rob, they can come and check everything once I've been through the checkout as I have never had anything to hide.

I did go to Aldi a couple of weeks ago, where they don't have baskets, so I piled my fruit and veg on the hood of the pushchair, then put the other items I wanted, under the pushchair. I paid for everything, of course. If shops don't have baskets, what are you meant to do? Juggle?! Or maybe leave little one at the door?

It has nothing to do with having a pram and everything to do with putting shopping in a bag or pram instead of a basket or trolley. It looks like you have something to hide, putting items in the bag before you've paid looks like you're trying to pretend you have. It's irrelevant if you were pregnant or pushing a pram, people can and have shoplifted in those circumstances. They are watching you for a good reason, your suspicious behaviour, so don't change where you shop, change how you shop.
