We've stayed countless times in the Travelodge in Portsmouth. It is over the Sovereign bar but we have never heard any noise from the bar. We have always been two or three floors up from the bar so maybe that makes a difference. There is a free large car park which is well lit and if you are lucky you can see your car from your room. You do get a bit of road noise if you stay in the rooms which overlook the road, the rooms that overlook the car park are much quieter. It is only about five minutes walk from a small local shopping street with a Somerfield supermarket and a few places to get takeaways, the Sovereign bar menu looks really nice and they do breakfast. Apart from our room not being cleaned once (we received a full refund for that night) we have never had any problems.

Oh thank you, I feel better now lol. Although we are only there from evening till the next day at 12 when we get the ferry. Might do our shopping before we board too then!

Be warned though, its a very old and well used / worn hotel and is long overdue for a refurbishment of some degree!.

I have stayed in several Travelodges now, and this had to be one of the worst, and on a par with Reading Central which is equally as bad. It obviously gets alot of use, but simply isnt being maintained in any shape or form. Having said that for £10 who can complain, but really, you wouldnt want to pay any more for a night there imo.

The Travelodge financial problems mentioned further above in this thread would explain why they don't (or can't afford to) maintain their properties!

Yes the reviews are quite bad. The worse one I have stayed in so far is St Helens, will see how this compares lol. I think as long as you dont expect too much Travelodges are adequate. Thanks for the info x

Can you remember what sort of drinks you are allowed with you meals please? x

You could have soft drinks, wine, and most of the beers / lagers. I think that the Stella Cidre and another couple of drinks weren't included. Not sure about spirits though. We had either cans or bottles, and took them to our room.

I'm sorry and maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but I don't see why you would think that children's evening meals would be free if they advertised free children's breakfasts.

If they said 'free children's meals' then I would agree with you, but they don't.

The reason we thought the meal were included was because we made a booking for a room and meals for a party of four. At no point were we given the option to add kids meals, and at no point did it say that the kids meals weren't included.
