mine too, a couple of them are quite far away and will take me well over an hour to get to on the bus but I'd still take it in a heart beat if I were lucky enough to get offered one.

It just shows how keen you are but also how desperate the situation is.

Yet night after night on here idiots slander the unemployed as 'workshy.'
As surely as night follows day capitalism will come crumbling down. On a mission to secure a just and ethical society.

Be nice to be able to afford the calls every day but I can't as I wouldn't then be able to pay the phone bill. When the email via Reed has gone to them I get an email giving me the recruiters email address to which I follow up with my references and a chase up email 3 days later.
Phone calls are cheap...5p for a call with 18185. If you are on BT Basic as I am then use 18185's override number and it's only 1p per minute. You only need to make 1 call per day maybe 15 minutes. That's 20 pence per day. £1 per week out of the £67.50. It's a good investment to get your name into the recruiters head.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I have been applying for jobs since being made redundant in November. Not had any interviews. I have had my CV checked and told it was fine so I am guessing that as I'm 50 employers would prefer a younger person with the same skills?

If you are 50 and think you are being rejected on this, then you must have your Date of birth on your CV? Why? There is no requirement, age does not dictate how well anyone can do a job....TAKE IT OFF CV!!!

To counter that though, hubby been made redundant 1 month ago, and got a job already, he is also 50. I don't think it is a barrier to many employers at all.

All of these agencies have my CV already and I can ill afford £1 a week. Sitting in my bed as I type wrapped in a duvet as can't afford to put the electric fan heater on.

Today I only applied to one job.

Feeling frustrated here, my first week of unemployment I did the sending out of the CV's, the going to visit employers, the searching and registering on job sites, That first week I applied for 6 jobs, I thought "Things aren't as bad as made out" well nothing has appeared since, the first week was just catching up on jobs that had been on for yonks, that was almost a month ago:( So you could say at the moment I am averaging 6 per month

Mate don't be too down on yourself. 6 jobs applied for in a month is a lot! I'm an ex traffic warden, most of my jobs have been in the world of parking. Imagine how many jobs I'm suitable to apply for! I've found 2 in 14 months that I could honestly say I had half a chance with. I've applied for others but the CV just hits the bin as I'm simply don't have the experience in those fields.

I applied for a machine operator job a while back, after 2 months they asked me to attend an interview. I went, the bloke looked at my few qualifications and pretty much talked me out the door. The job was sitting on a production line checking bits of plastic all day long. Despite that, they've got plenty of poles working there.

You think you're doing badly with 6 applications per month? - Pat yourself on the back mate because you could be in my pile of poo!
  • .... Well, I have applied for four jobs so far this fortnight and I am due to sign on again on Wednesday. I always worry that I will get sanctioned for not applying for enough jobs, but the jobs just aren't there to apply for. I am on JSA and due to start on the "Work Programme" next week.

it varies, because I have a son and no childcare and health problems I have to be selective in what I apply for. Retail work is out as is any job that involves standing for long periods or lifting.

Last week I found 3 jobs I could apply for, so far this week I've not found any :( I still send out cv's and cover letters to co's but the standard reply when I chase them up is "we don't keep cv's we advertise when we have a vacancies"

The WP said I have to apply for 2 jobs a week, so they won't be happy but there really hasn't been anything suitable for me to apply for this week :(

I'm not on the WP yet as I'm on ESA but I've been offered a place on a programme called Work something or other, so I'm assuming its WP. I'm on ESA after becomming partially sighted.

Like you I have a DS & DD & I'm also a single parent (yes, one of those *ducks & runs for cover*)
with no family nearby, & difficulties with childcare as my DD is now 12 (so all the holiday clubs etc. are now closed to her).

I'm curious to know how much pressure, if any, the JC put on you to apply for jobs that you know you won't be able to do because of child care etc.?

I wasn't too impressed with the JC advisor who suggested I just leave my DD at home (for days on end during the summer hols ) to go to work. While some parents may be happy to do so, I am not & do not want to be pushed in to doing so by the JC.

I want to go back to work, but not to the detriment of my children. If the WP can help me to get a job that I can actually do then I'll be delighted, but I'm a bit worried that I may end up in a worse situation.
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...
