I wasn't told either, I was told I had to put 3 things a week in that book whether it be search, apply or whatever.
The anser is zero but you will be questioned as to why you didn't apply for anything at all. They may even ask you to apply for an inappropriate job off the jobcentre system and you must apply for anything that they give you. If you are then offered an interview you then must make an effort to get the job even if it's not the job you really want to have. If you are then successful at interview and offered the job you then must take it or your benefit will be sanctioned so I always made it look like I was putting in extra effort than the minimum of what was required to prevent them offering jobs from the jobcentre computer. They usually still did try and find one for me to apply for.

113 in 2 weeks....WOW!!!....Are you just ticking boxes on a website and clicking send or are these actual jobs that you written a tailored application for and put some effort into researching the company you wish to work for?

I apply for about 2 genuine jobs that I actually want per week. I do also tick boxes on jobserve and other websites and "apply" by sending a standard CV but I do not count those jobs as applied for.
Most of the jobs I apply for are on sites like Reed, Totaljobs etc where I have my CV stored but I have a few versions of a cover letter depending on job and I even have to add stuff in or take a bit off sometimes. I have also applied this week for jobs where I have had to email cover letters and fill in application forms, one of which took me 2 hours as they wanted in depth answeres to 3 questions giving examples of situations etc

I must be lucky, Yesterday I was told "We can do nothing for you, there is no jobs" So no pressure at least and you can't take what isn't there.

Yeah I done all that in week 1 of unemployment, Uploaded all to Reed, Totaljobs, monster, in retail etc, but as I say all seems to be for graduates, well either that or jobs for bloody women's clothes shops, newlook etc.

No not lucky...it's just you have a good advisor and at least they tried to look. I go into the jobcentre fairly well presented as if I was going to a job interview. They only look at the skilled jobs and never once have they asked me to apply for a minimum wage job. Some friends of mine are always asked to apply for manual minimum wage jobs which would suit them. Others are asked to apply for bar work or shop work based on their previous experience.

As you have been unemployed for a short time you can also pick and choose what jobs you want based on your previous job so asking you to apply for a minimum wage job won't help you.

  • On average 5 or 6 a week, depends whether it's a quiet week jobsearch wise or not. This involves researching the company and tweaking my CV appropriately, writing a cover letter that suits the job spec, any company specific application forms.

I do question the quality of applications if 113 can be churned out in a fortnight...that's 8 a day! I may be wrong though, just my opinion.

on Reed they are agencies that just want a CV so I send it - if it was 113 full application forms then I doubt I coudl do that and besides only probably 1-2 a week ask for a form to be filled in

it varies, because I have a son and no childcare and health problems I have to be selective in what I apply for. Retail work is out as is any job that involves standing for long periods or lifting.

Last week I found 3 jobs I could apply for, so far this week I've not found any :( I still send out cv's and cover letters to co's but the standard reply when I chase them up is "we don't keep cv's we advertise when we have a vacancies"

The WP said I have to apply for 2 jobs a week, so they won't be happy but there really hasn't been anything suitable for me to apply for this week :(
  • I'm applying for between 4 and 6 a week with very little success, I have had 3 interviews since October each time I have had positive feedback but no job offer. Things dried up a a lot over Christmas and only really picked up in the last two weeks.

I'm looking for IT roles either with Cisco or Microsoft skills required as I have over 20 years experience in them, the problem I often get is that I am too experienced or over qualified. In the meantime i'm doing some studying.
