Joiner Threatened Me On Phone Today

What? Try giving that a moment's thought.
Of the £40 he quoted for fitting how much did the joiner get?
I think the point is that OP was told £60 for having a door fitted. The joiner has offered the service and the materials in the price. They could have told OP to buy the door and pay over the phone/internet and they'd collect it and fit it for £40 but he didn't, he offered it as a complete package.
OP has paid £30 of the £60 and I don't think it's relevant that £x is for the door and £y for the labour, though if you want to get pedantic, the joiner is claiming that OP owes him £20 for the door so that would suggest that he considered the payment as money for his labour.
OP, the guy has messed up and is now annoyed that he won't be getting all his money. He's done two hours of work for £10, once he eats up the cost of the door, so he's probably annoyed with himself too. Technically, if he said it's a 3 hour job, you probably should have given him £40 for the first 2 hours rather than £30, but if someone else has told you that he's done a shoddy job then you could say the £30 was a fair price. I'd just tell him that you've paid him £30 and have now had to get someone else in to complete his work with the remaining £30 so as far as you're concerned, no more money is due from you and no more work is needed from him.0 -

He quoted £40 labour and I told him the door I wanted which is £19.98. £60 in all. Mum gave me the money.
I was polite to him on thursday made him most welcome in my home, chatted over cup of coffee etc, helped him clean up the mess after sawing in the yard. I didnt even know about the gap in the bottom of the door.
He knew I had dentist appt, so he had to leave so I could go. I said just give me a call when you have a spare hour, he commented he wouldnt be back for weeks. Gave him £30.
If Id given him £60 for a door not finished I prob wouldnt have seen him again.
My mum paid £500 to a guy she trusted to come back, he never did, this has now gone through the courts, she will never see that again.
Anyway the police have took it seriously and are calling me again about the threat on the phone. I told them I dont want him to threaten anyone else.
Ive had a rewire and replaster done on my house 4 years ago and they accepted rest of payment once job was completed, I transferred the money online to them while at home. I was happy they were happy.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -
You need t have a look at the B&Q courses. They do a course on hanging doors, either £10 or £20. If you do it yourself, no one can rip you off.Jan GC £96.95/£120; NSD 26/31

That would be a waste of money. I could tell someone how to hang a door in ten minutes, does not mean they would be able to..
Have you seen someone with no joinery skills try to use a plane, chisel, or cut a straight line with a hand saw etc?

The main problem for people with no joinery skills is that they do not have any sharp tools, or the knowledge to sharpen them.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Am I missing something? I don't see any threat at all. I can't see anywhere in the OP's post that tells us what the joiner threatened. Yes he stated a fact that they were now enemy's. Hardly surprising considering he feels you short changed him (you didn't) and that you feel he was unprofessional and aggressive but certainly not a threat.0

No you try thinking and buy a dictionary.
He quoted £40 labour and the door was £20, supplied at cost.
The OP DID give the joiner £30, there is no dispute about that, and he claimed he was given £10, there is no dispute about that. The 'joiner' was given £30, he then paid £20 for a door, hence his profit (ignoring overheads) was £10. If you mean his profit was £10, then yes it was.
But the point here is that the joiner claimed he was given £10, when he was given £30. Unless he is using your logic (confusing 'given' with 'made profit of'), then he is dishonest.
But really all this needed was for the mutual friend to talk to this person, and find out his story i.e. does he maintain he was only given £10, or that his profit (ignoring costs) was £10. In my opinion this 'joiner' is guilty of poor communication, as well as poor workmanship by all accounts.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
