Why do people on here vilify benefit claimants so much?
Comments
-
Well, these replies just tell me that I was right.
For those who have to claim benefits and have to come on sites like this to get information is travesty.
Apart from the first two replies, the rest are clearly from people who seem to despise benefit claimants, yet post their verbal rubbish on a site that was specifically set up to provide good quality advice to those that need it.
For the life of me I can't work out why they would do it. Surely if you can't help someone with a problem why post?
I will not post or answer any further on here and will just let me account remain unused.
It is so sad that some people feel the need to be so disgusting towards those who are vulnerable.0 -
If someone can reassure me that it is just me that has had a bad experience from this site, then I will ask questions. Much better to get two opinions than one.
There are two types of people who get villified:
1) The long term who have absolutely no intention of ever working and come out with loads of reasons why they can't, none of which are actually valid.
2) Those who are trying to fiddle the system.
Other than that you may get the odd Daily Mail reader giving a genuine person grief but you'll get that anywhere. Usually those pricks are on benefits themselves (child benefit or working tax credit) but seem to conveniently forget they are.
I just have a quiet chuckle.0 -

Id agree, seen quite a lot of sensible advice on here for many posters seeking help but whether by accident or design some of the posts (usually from first time posters) that start "im in receipt of HRM,HRC,WTC,CB,HB,etc etc can I claim anything else"?? tend to get peoples backs up,im not saying many are not entitled to the benefits but rather if you are reading the post after coming home from a long day on NMW it can look annoying.0 -

And this is why I think this family example angers those that contribute to the tax system that pays such benefits (I know this is not necessarily typical of every family)
Sky - Is it absolutely necessary when you are talking about a decision as to whether to eat or heat?
Lager - 24 cans per week?
Cigarettes - 200 per week.
Mobiles - £32 - Why do they need mobiles when neither is at work?
Child - Unemployed since 2001 yet has a five year old. Why would you have another kid (has 6 already) when you have no income to support the children he already has and bemoans the tiny space they all live in?
I work but could not afford to spend such vast amounts on these items so how could you claim that you will be hard done by when such a large family needs food and warmth?0 -
OP. you will find some members offer useful advice, some offer useless advice and some offer abusive comments. You will find this in pretty much all the threads (particularly benefit related).
Each thread can become an emotional tit for tat, back stabbing and bish bashing affair, the trick is to sift through the posts and select the advice you find might be helpful, whilst disregarding those who have nothing better to do than have a troll fight.
There are many members who are more than happy to help, who will offer advice where and when they can, try not to let one or two trolls tar everyone else with their own brush and you should do just fine.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Yes, there are benefit bashers on this site - I would imagine that there are on most sites. However, I am a benefit claimant and have found support. Perhaps this is because I have a severely disabled child and people can understand that I can't work due to his needs. I think that posters tend to get annoyed with those who don't seem to want to work or give up benefits - it should be a safety net, not a lifestyle choice, but sadly many seem to want to claim as much as they can without taking responsibility. Note that I say many. I do not include everyone in this. There are people who have to claim benefits because they have no choice. Maybe they have recently lost their jobs, have health problems or caring responsibilities. Few posters are annoyed about that. They do become annoyed, however, when somebody posts that they don't see why they should give up income related benefits when a partner moves in, and similar scenarios.
If the OP or anyone else doesn't like this site, they don't have to read it. Nobody is forcing them to.0 -

Hi, Firstly I am a long term poster on another site and a member of B&W as well as rightsnet.
Whilst I have had some bits of good advice on here, this site is miles apart from the others.
Over the past years I have had many problems with the DWP, all of which have been sorted thanks to other forums.
Why is it that so many people on here are so unhelpful for people like me that wants to get as much in benefits as I can that I am entitled to?
If I listened to some of the comments on here I would not be getting what I do already.
If someone can reassure me that it is just me that has had a bad experience from this site, then I will ask questions. Much better to get two opinions than one.
I can understand where the original poster is coming from, but I can see the other side of it too. It depends on each individual case, really.
I have worked for most of my adult life, but have been unemployed for a couple of periods when I lost my job due to long term illness a couple of years ago, and recently being made redundant after the company I worked for went under, which coinsided with poor health/surgery. Therefore, I can see things from both sides of the fence.
Did it annoy me when I was slogging my guts out (through poor health) while people that could work, but didn't want to, took all they could? Of course it did. Would/could it annoy me if I was/am unable to work and I came on here for advice, because I'm really struggling to survive and would like to know what I can get, but get a lot of negative feeling while times are already hard? Of course.
I think MSE is very much a place where people are grafters and want to help themselves, if at all possible. Yes, there are some troll or the typical 'Daily Mail' reader. But that's life, you have to let it wash over you.“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” ― Albert Einstein
