Why do people on here vilify benefit claimants so much?

I don't post as much as i did previously directly because of the regular benefit bashing brigade [They know who they are].

They break the forum rules time and again with their vile vitriol against benefit claimants. They do not keep their posts factual, they often accuse those offering genuine advice of being 'complicit in fraud', they are abusive and constantly derailing threads and they are always second guessing the OP with what they think is the truth rather then what has been posted by the OP [otherwise known as 'facts'.]

They presumably work given their attitude to benefit claimants yet they spend so much time on here one can only believe if they are genuinely working then they can't actually have much of a life if this is where they choose to spend a lot of their free time.

When genuine contributors choose to cut down on their posts then yes their is a problem. I would say almost everyday its a running battle between benefit bashers and other contributors and its not really conducive to the purposes of this part of the forum.

So i don't believe its a question of the forum as a whole turning on a suspicious post so much as a few regular trolls bending and inventing information to fit their agenda so they can get some kind of frankly empty and pathetic satisfaction from screeching 'off with their heads' as if they were playing the part of the Queen in Alice and Wonderland in some second rate panto.

Got to be honest don't really get it and don't really care anymore. ;)

when I asked for advice for my daughter who was pregnant and had no money, suggestions such as abortion and adoption were thrown at me, she was around 18 weeks then. There were alot of helpful comments, but the abuse was so bad that the thread was locked within 24 hours of me posting it.

    This is why.

If benefit bashers can give then they should be able to take ;)
  • *Hear Hear* @ original OP and the masses of Posters following.

I find this aspect of the site is putting me off divebombing into the outermost reaches of this site.

People here too hasty to rush into judgement over others , especially the most vulnerable whom I have heard spoken of as 'undesirables'; which reveals the inner snobbery.
Money Savers who think they are above Benefits Claiming, and especially that as a long term experience lasting many years.

As I observe it too many people here are in already precarious positions with PT Jobs, Home based incomes and IMHO are too liable to end up on Benefits though you would never know it from the way they talk.

  • Re: living with OH etc What business is it of theirs if you wish to make a query about your income levels on Benefits when that is all you have to live on? Aren't we the same as them? (Only we get penalised by it with a drastic drop in income, that will please them!).

  • Seeing as this is FINANCIAL site and one that is aimed at the PEOPLE and PEOPLE POWER when it comes down to SAVING MONEY, to me it just makes it thoroughly reprehensible that people appoint themselves Judge Jury [and Executioner] with no appeal to mutual humanity, common sense and a thorough deep drastic and radical need to survive.

  • I would LOVE to see those Benefit Bashers get a taste of their own medicine! It's about time the vulnerable hit back! (although Love, Peace and Happiness and mutual vulnerability is a much better deal).

    Shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I work and I work damn hard (I'm off work for 2 weeks ill at the moment hence being on here). I travel miles to a big city as I have always found the wage better. I have weekends but very little time during the week for anything but work and travel.

I'll hold my hands up and say that some people who are on benefits are on them as a lifestyle choice and it winds me up!! I've all the sympathy in the world for those who have lost their jobs and find themselves having to rely on benefits. But those who have never worked and are never going to work are not 'vulnerable'...they are a damnright drain on society.

I'm so sorry to anyone that HAS no choice but to rely on benefits but I hear stories of carers etc that get next to nothing and scroungers that have everything they ever want and wonder where the justice is.

I guess my question would be ..are you truly vulnerable OR do you choose not to work? If it's the latter you have more than enough time to go to Citizens Advice or the job centre and find out what your entitled to yourself

I think OP, it is because this site in itself is about saving money, so IMO if you are coming on this site, then you could well be struggling and need money advise.

Many people who work, can end up in a position where they not get much more than those on benefits (but are still paying the benefits for those who can't or wont work), the difference can be a few quid a week - yet you are flogging your heart out in a job you may well dislike. And then there are the people who will not just take 'any job' to pay their way - it has got to be the 'right job' so they feel 'happy and fulfilled' in their work, all the time waiting for this ideal job to come along and claiming benefits - money out of the workers pockets. they feel justified having extended periods of unemployment whilst waiting for their perfect job, off the backs of others. Its not right and it is sponging. And people are sick of it. People like this deserve to be looked down upon if you ask me

No one would tell of someone for being made redundant or claiming DLA. But there are too many people who wont just take any job to pay their way -

IMO people who pay benefits - Taxpayers - can have any opinion about it they darn well please - it is OUR money! When I start taking money out of your pocket, I would expect an opinion shown.
The opposite of what you know...is also true
