Seems a poll is the only fair way so here it is guys:

That way we can leave this thread for talking about films :rotfl:

I hate to say it, as I know I know my suggestion will make a lot of people indignant but if there is to be a poll on the use of the Codes Only thread, then details of the poll also need to be posted on that thread. Those who, like me, favour new tickets for previously posted codes being included on the Codes Only thread will often only subscribe to that thread and won't be aware of the poll. Those who have the luxury of time to trawl through the discussion thread will have an unfair advantage in the poll if it's not flagged up to Codes Only subscribers. Take a look at the number of thank yous on Blondie7's last post on Codes Only...

    From CODES ONLY

sorry in advance to everyone who thinks this is going to be a new code. It is a code which was posted a few days ago for which tickets are available again tellten 117356 but keeps getting deleted.

sarah1972 surely a code is a code and letting people know more tickets are available who other wise would not know is also what this site is all about. So I guess I can thank you for keep deleting my post telling people more tickets are available for pitch perfect.

    blondie7 - IT'S STILL THERE - IT'S POST 17

As for CODES on the CODES ONLY ....

A Code ONLY gets posted ONCE
NO repeat posts of the same code
No comments posted about tickets "ALL GONE" - They NEVER are ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY GONE until the film has been shown (or at least started) - JUST KEEP TRYING
The CODE post does not get deleted until the date & time of the screening(s) has elapsed.

I'll take the next one on advice from others.
Allowing a VERY LAST MINUTE reminder IF there are apparently loads of tickets still available.
I did this myself only a week or so ago - there were more than half the venues still showing availability with only 25 to 55 minutes before the screenings were about to start.
If the time period had been much greater I'd have posted on this discussion thread

My recent personal experience might help people to make their vote.

For once I missed out on a code, in this case for Life of Pi via Sky.
I checked Sky yesterday and to my delight, I was able to obtain two tickets. I then tried again but I must have grabbed the last two tickets available as it was now saying full.

Now if I had posted on Codes only to alert thousands that there were more tickets available, all I would have been doing is announcing that I managed to get the last two tickets for Liverpool. What help would that have been? None at all.

I didn’t need someone post that there were more tickets available, I checked all by myself. Amazing what a bit of initiative does for you.

And some of those who clicked "thanks" do so for absolutely everything.

From codes, to chat to spam. The amount of thanks means nothing.

I actually agree with both sides of the argument. I do not like to receive emails only to find that the post has been deleted already and unless you're on your computer all day more tickets available have usually gone. On the flip side, to keep up with extra released tickets on this thread is also a nightmare, because sometimes when you click through you are greeted with constant bickering and silly comments. No wonder a lot of people choose not to subscribe to this thread and miss out.

Maybe a more tickets thread should be started??

I don't mind a post for more tickets available.

    In fact, I like it

It's not lazy to like to get notifications

There's other sites out there if you want a super strict posting regime.

Let's just keep MSE nice and friendly - maybe 'more ticket posts' don't help some members, but then they do help others

To change the subject from all the whatnoting above - can i try and be more constructive?

The codes only thread - had codes deleted recently - with the apparent logic that ...well it wasn't logical!
New tickets had become available - the code was reposed telling us that - i got tickets from the reposting/new release and realy apprecaited it.
I thought the point of the codes on board was that it gave us available codes....apparently not.
Apparently we're meant to follow the discussions thread (which i don't) if we want to know about codes..

Ever get the feeling someone has to much power and is becoming rather silly?

IMHO a code that had expired, and now has more seats released, is as good as a new code - otherwise we all have to keep trying old codes in hope - and life is to short.
Please if anyone actualy has a say in this - can the nice people who occasionally re-post a code, with a note saying more tickets are available, get some appreciation for their efforts - stop deleting and leave their post on the 'codes only' board.

    Rant over.

What constitutes a "NEW RELEASE" on an "old" code ?
(for that matter what constitutes as "EXPIRED")

    An email from SFF ?
The fact that I got tickets today on the code whereas I've not been able to do so for the last 3 days ?
20% of venues NOW showing availability when it was 10% yesterday ?

As for the latter point - trying old codes - do as I do
Save the showfilmfirst.com/pin/nnnnnn as a FAVOURITE
I mostly use Google Chrome and have any/all of these links that I still need to obtain tickets from on my BOOKMARK toolbar - either as a direct link or in a NEEDTICKS folder if there are a multitude of codes, screenings or films that are "pending".
It's there as a constant reminder to keep checking, takes a split second to try and saves checking back to MSE etc.
It's probably more time consuming to keep checking to see if you've had an email indicating an update to the Codes Only thread that may BUT most probably has NOTHING of interest to you at all
Re-checking codes puts your destiny in your own hands and not in that of some unknown other through a random event or reason

I think it's really simple. New tickets (regardless of code) = codes thread. That's what it's there for.

Pointless updates on known tickets / tickets run out etc. = chat.

Just because some of you have the time or inclination to keep checking pages (which is fine) doesn't mean the rest of us do. And yes, occasionally we'll get irrelevant posts. That doesn't mean it's not worth doing overall. Nothing is perfect.

And Sarah I agree, the poll is skewed as code-thread only subscribers don't know about it (despite that, posting-on-codes is ahead right now :)).

Keep up the good work posters (signing out of the chat thread :A).

(oops, see the discussion moved to the poll thread, sorry).
  • Equally, others are actually discerning in which posts they thank. 9 thank yous to sarah1972's original post asking people not to use the codes only threads for new tickets on old codes as opposed to 31 thank yous for blondie7's disagreement speaks volumes imho. What you refer to as initiative is fine providing that everybody has an equal amount of time on their hands. Others of us that do not have the time to read (and contribute to) multiple threads, depend on the codes only thread to alert us to new tickets regardless of whether it is a new or old code. There has previously been the argument of whether Sky/Virgin/Telegraph subscriber only tickets should be posted as the information is only helpful to a specific group of users - we've established that flagging new tickets for old codes is useful for some of us so surely this is no different.

In that case perhaps I should resubmit a post I made a year or 2 ago explaining why it didn't help having repeats, duplicates and "all gone" followed by "oh NO they're not" posts minutes/hours/days later that received a couple of hundred thanks :)
