in Techie Stuff
Apologies in advance, I am completely useless at anything techie and I don't even know the right words to use.
A few years ago OH bought a wii fit. I would quite like to have a go at it but I am not sure how to use it and he says he will show me later.
ds is due to cover a class in school about things like wii, playstation etc and the wii fit is the nearest thing we've got. OH has, after a certain amount of prompting, plugged it all in, but apparently it needs a thingy that sits on top of the tv, to sense the hand thingy. And the thingy that senses the hand thingy is missing. It may have been thrown out.
Do I just need to buy a new wii fit? What do I need to do to get the thing working? Is it easy to find a manual on line as I have no idea where the original one is, and I seem to go blank when I read manuals?
I am entirely at the mercy of the kind people on here, as I have no clue and if I am forced to ask OH again I will end up in the papers. And not in a good way. Any help will be very gratefully received.

Don't buy a new Wii fit, you just need a new "sensor bar"
When you press buttons on your Wii controller they connect directly to the Wii just like your TV remote. But when you move the controller around it's the sensor bar that can tell what you're pointing at or what motion you're making.
I think supermarkets sell them or perhaps second hand shops might if you want to go get one today.
Otherwise, there are plenty on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WIRED-INFRARED-RAY-SENSOR-BAR-NINTENDO-Wii-STAND-/280727962208?pt=UK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories_VideoGameAccessories_JN&hash=item415cb0c260
Or they have them on Amazon if you're not a fan of eBay:

If you want to know how to actually work the Wii Fit I can tell you it is very simple and intuitive - the game helps you step by step. But let us know if you get stuck.Hi. Chickabiddybex - thank you sooooo much! I think once I understand it a tiny bit then I will be fine, but it is like it is all chinese to me. I am not proud of this.
I really appreciate your help, and I am now off to ebay.
Thank you again. WSAnkh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
You could try somewhere like Computer Exchange for a second hand / pre-owned replacement 'sensor bar'
http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SWIIVALUE10
Or I have seen replacements in places like Asda and Tesco for about £5. Look in the Electrical department.0 -
Bikertove - thank you, I never thought of that. I may be going to those places next, especially if I need another hand thingy (nunchuk?)
:o:o I love ebay (far too much), so I went and got a sensor bar from there now I know what it is called (@ £3.00 inc p&p, wireless). I also got a remote and a nunchuk as I couldn't guarantee that the stuff would be found in time. I need to get at least how to turn it on and off etc before ds does it at school. I have assumed that even though the wii is quite old, it will still be compatible with the stuff on sale now. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that I have bought the right stuff.
Ds is in reception, one week they do teddy bears, another they do games consoles - it is a bit of a culture shock for me.
I really, really appreciate the help. I didn't even know what to call stuff, just having that help has made a lot of difference. Thank you.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
What exactly do they need Wii Fit for? When you say "they do games consoles" what do they in fact do with them?
And it doesn't matter how old your Wii is - it will play new things fine.
One last thing - don't be so hard on yourself! If you can use this forum you're clearly not too bad with technology
Ok I lied, this is the last thing:
Wii Remote (note: needs batteries)
Nunchuk
Wii Console (don't worry if yours doesn't have a stand - it isn't crucial)
Sensor bar
AC Adapter This goes from the back of the Wii to the plug socket in your wall
AV Cable This goes from the back of the Wii to your tv
