Also, can't remember who was moaning about shop bought granola but I make my own. 300 gms mixed flakes (porridge oats are fine but I bung in wheat and rye flakes), 50g each of sunflower and pumpkin seeds, same of sesame, 100g flaked almonds and some sultanas, a handful of hazelnuts, and some walnuts I crumble in. Mix up with a couple of tablespoons of oil, the same of honey, and 125ml of maple syrup. Based on a Good Food recipe. Bake for 20 mins, (I spread foil over a baking tray) stirring it around halfway through. I generally leave the sultanas out until the last five mins. Leave to cool completely before picking up the foil and sort of funnelling the lot into some tupperware.

Very filling but by the sounds of your lot you might want to bulk up with cheap oats as much as possible. Can you persuade him to try porridge? Cooked with apple juice it's really sweet and lovely and much, much cheaper.

    Thanks it was me:D
Tried porridge with honey & seeds, also with chopped dried fruit buy he hated it.

Managed to get some Jordans granola fairly cheap at Costc*on Sunday so will get it out gradually so he doesn't eat it all at once:D

Evening all! DH had a senior moment today and picked up some snack bars for his lunch box. In his defense, they were on offer for £1 ....but I had (unknown to him) made a tray of flapjack and a large fruit cake.

Fresh Salmon, Peas and Potatoes for Tea tonight followed by a slice of the fruit cake.

Siggy updated as we had a small shop today, hopefully a NSD tomorrow. So I will declare my spend so far from my annual budget at £495.88 (a bit higher than it should be:o)

    Have a nice evening everyone!

    Hi everyone
I am finally reigning in my SM shopping! My grand total this week came to £63 instead of about £85. Not a huge difference, but its still a difference and still makes me feel like i am accomplishing something!
I have a full weeks meals, lunches, snacks and breakfasts in the house, so shouldnt need to go near a SM until Friday (pay day).

:) I like keeping my money instead of giving it to the SMs!
Well done cleggie:T it's not easy to stop when you get into the sm they always seem to tempt me

  • Just doing an update, February budget came in under target, pretty shocked and searched really hard for any missing receipts (and found a £5 folded up in one) so I think £138 was a record for me, period. This month looks shocking, two big shops and I am half way through but I also have at least 2 weeks of dinners so if I can get back into the routine of NSD's and not running out of milk (and buying other things) I might get back on track! I am a little behind on the thread so need to do some reading.

Another NSD for me today. I was really fighting the urge to go to the SM after work tonight (I finished at 10pm) to hunt for YS but I have resisted.

Dinner tonight was a YS 80p chicken dinner for 1 from M & $ which was quite tasty.

Tomorrow I have a pal coming over for dinner so might make fahitas - will need to buy sour cream and salsa though.

My month ends on Thursday evening so I am currently on track.

NSD today. This is the end of my February - so declaring at £52.66 for my four week month - I do it per four weeks as that is how my pension is paid. I managed 21 NSD out of my target 22.
We had Tandoori chicken/HM wedges and salad for dinner.
