We had our pancakes for lunch today, as the children are always at their dad's on a tues, so I never get them on Shrove Tuesday! Ds had 3, and dd had 2. They love golden syrup on them. I had two with lemon and honey, then tried one with nutella - omg how good?!!Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. (I love pancakes:o).
I did treat myself to some blueberries at Mr T today ..... when DM and I were out yesterday, there was a crepe place at Dob*bie's - I was very tempted by a blueberry & ice cream crepe but it was £5.95:eek: so I managed to resist - with the promise I'd make myself some on pancake day:D
I have no idea what I'll do with the rest of them:eek: - does anyone know if they freeze? (Then I could have it again .... and again)
OMG i totally forgot it was pancake day on Tuesday!! Definitely having them for brekkie and pudding then....any excuse!:o
RFTA-yes you can freeze blueberries, just bag them up and chuck them in the freezer. i always do this as they are so expensive so i get them when on offer and freeze them.0 -
I am from Yorkshire and we would often when we were growing up have yorkshire puddings on a sunday with our roast dinner. The following day we would have the left over meat and veg made into a stew and served on pancakes which were made with the left over yorkshire pudding batter. Any left over stew would then be mashed up and made into pasties.
Anyway moving on 30/40 years and I still make pancakes which we have with savoury mince (carrots, onions, potatoes, swede etc) I usually end up freezing a couple of portions, with a couple of pancakes which I fold into quarters and pop into a freezer bag) They always come out ok. I just defrost them and warm them in the microwave.
Whoops you meant freezing blueberries :embarasse :embarasse0 -

It's not the same and I know it's the caffeine I miss but like you I know it's better for me:mad: I have been saving the money I would have spent and am amazed at how much I have. I still have cravings now and then but I'm determined to keep going. DH is a coffee drinker and doesn't "get" the whole cola thing so no sympathy there:( x
I totally get the caffeine thing but not the cola - I was drinking so much coffee I was shaking and I could feel my heart racing slightly. I now take an insulated cup in the morning for in the car (50m to the office) and then refill from the chilled water fountain all day and keep sipping it. I also now keep a good quality squash in the office (for me it has to be artificial colours and sweetener free) and when I really want that something, I make up squash and have that for the change.
For the first month I was getting blinding headaches but my body seems to have adjusted and I no longer get the caffeine cravings. Keep it up, it is worth it in the end and hell, your dentist bills might reduce tooSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Hi lovely ladies,
Advice please! A friend kindly gave us a butternut squash last night. We don't know what to do with it but I thought roasted would be good to go with our cottage pie later. Any advice please on how best to roast it? Alternatively, any other suggestions for using it other than soup please?
Thanks,
Spigs
We love BNS in this household. We do it as others have suggested, it is very versatile. Risotto, curry, roast, stew, boiled et al. One not suggested yet is mashed, NOM, NOM! Peel, boil in water, drain, mash with butter. Can be mashed on it's own or with potatoes. Makes a gorgeous topping for Cottage PieBSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Hi - it was the first of the 3 listed - I think that the problem was with the 425ml milk - other recipes I have seen since have about half that quantity
Thanks Ninno, I've deleted that recipe... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Fantastic - thanks CleggieI do this with blackberries (picked in the woods so all free;)) so was thinking they should be the same.
Yup, I did get 2 punnets as they were on offerWhoops you meant freezing blueberries :embarasse :embarasseNot to worry JIL, thanks for the tip - I've never tried freezing actual pancakes before as usually just make & eat them:o and use any leftover mixture the next day ... but may well give it a go now!

Need to report a spend of about £70 in A$da today. Haven't got my totals with me but I think that leaves me about £6 for the rest of the month
I reckon I can get by - might need a few more veg towards the end of the week but I'm sure with the help of A!di I can bring it in under £6.
Part of the problem is OH is suffering from a touch of food poisoning today so I bought him some tummy-friendly foods that I wouldn't normally buy to try and tempt him to eat something this evening. I am sure they'll be used but if he complains next week that I haven't got him enough biscuits, there'll be hell to pay0 -
Hi all, hope everyone's well and doing well.
I've just updated my sig [to Sunday 19th inclusive] with 4 - 4! - NSDs. I did intend to get out for a few bits and pieces, but through a combination of not getting round to it and using stuff that was already in, somehow put off shopping until tomorrow, then tomorrow again, then... :rotfl:
There will definitely be a spend tomorrow, though - out of milk, only two slices of bread left in the freezer, blahblahblah. I'm determined that food shopping until the end of the month should be 'needed ingredients'. No falling for 'any old yellow sticker' this time
The freezer has a bit of a gap in it now, which is on the verge of unnerving me, but I'm working on turning my hoarding habit into sensible stocks, staying strong and not filling the gap with cheap, temptingly non-SW-friendly things like bagels and muffins just for the sake of it. Veg and fruit, if bargainous, will do the job; if none turn up, I'll bide my time, plan properly and restock when I spot things at the right price.
What is definitely unnerving me is the fact that we've nothing left in our toilet roll stash. So I'm starting to allow myself to think about my next online bulk-stuff order, and hoping I'll be able to leave it until early next month...Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides.0 -

Don't know if anyone else has noticed but you've got to watch the YS items too - saw some blueberry tubs with them on today @ £1.69 but if you bought 2 "normal" tubs they worked out at £1.50 each . Have seen similar things with meat recently too.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
