some points:-

1. being in a rural village is fine, don't think there can be many exchanges left that aren't bb-enabled, so don't worry 'bout it :)

2. TT is talktalk, and whilst there are many complaints about them, there are also many more satified customers (including me, but I'm on LLU so different situation than you'll be in). If you read between the lines, the TT customers who have the most complaints tend to be on the non-LLU service, i.e. through the BTW system, which TT (or any other BT reseller) don't have control over but get blamed even when it's BT's kit and/or systems that are at fault.

In your situation, I'd probably not go with TT (or plusnet or any other budget service tbh) and go for one of the better ISPs who've got better tech support ('coz you'll probably need it when BT's DLM sticks your profile and you need your ISP to fight your case)

3. Zen are one of the premium bb companies in the UK, but as with everything premium, it comes at a price.

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
• When you change provider, do you also have to change your email address. I assume you do if you have the blah@BTinternet.com format?
• You do if you change companies (BT to TT as an example) but if you use hotmail or gmail then you can use that with any company and you never need to change it.

The only possible reason for going with TT is because they are very cheap on an LLU service. But if not available LLU then they charge a £15 surcharge-so in your case you can (thankfully) rule them out on cost grounds..
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
• Ok, thanks again, Guys. I feel much better equipped to start this now.

I've come across a deal with Sky at £5.00 "unlimited", free evening & w/end calls, + £12.25 line rental - a saving of £20 ish per month.:money:

Any feedback on Sky capabilities?

I understand what you're saying about the BT infrastructure. I promise not to blame the BB provider for the BT inadequacies...I've lived with those for 4 years now., so should recognise them :D

I'm going to log off now and sleep on this, though I can feel a call to BT coming on tomorrow along the lines of "what can you offer me to make me stay" :D

Bet the answer is "nowt". Story of my life :rotfl:

Many thanks, again

xx

can't agree with that mac, I'm ex-tiscali now fully migrated to TT and on their MSAN..... gotta say the service for me has been very decent (and I tweak down to 3dB snrm), no probs with stability, speeds or throughput :)

that probably only applies if you're getting the LLU (i.e. sky's kit in your exchange, and you move your phone line over to that) rather than the Connect service (which is what you could have from sky, no LLU at all in your exchange, remember?)- read the details VERY carefully.....

Like others have said if you use the link below and click on Broadband & Talk and enter your post code and telephone number does it say Sky Connect or something different?

Morning!

Yes, it says Sky Connect is the only Broadband available at £17 pm and £12.25 line rental - would be £7 a month saving.

I see what you mean now...after work this evening, I'll work my way down the list of providers offered on Uswitch and check each one's details for the REAL deals...

I thought it all seemed too good to be true :(

I'll still ring BT though and start seeing what can be offered there. I can see from other threads that I may have to persevere...a phone call a day over the next week might just get me what I want with no upheaval.

Will report back. And no doubt will have more naive questions :rotfl:

Have a good day

xx
