From what I've read US banks are as rapacious as their UK counterparts.

More so, for a more antiquated service, as far as I can tell (banked with HSBC in US and UK; US frustratingly creaky; needless to say, the systems didn't interact at all)
I've had so many $39 overdraft fees for ridiculously low overdraws - many for under $10

Yup, it happens within minutes, it seems. I was so surprised in the US when I got hit for being $5 over; there wasn't a crumb of customer service awareness on the part of the teller who told me about the charge (I was putting an expenses check *in* at the time). In the UK there would most likely have been a bit of negotiation.

It's cultural. People are used to the widespread charges levied in the States, but remember the fuss here when most of the cash machines/ATMs started charging? It didn't stick. At HSBC US, they charged me for checking my balance on their own machines... Unimaginable in the UK.
    Now: off-set mortgage *up-and-running*...

haven't seen this thread for ages. I haven;t done anything to reclaim from Bank of America, but I am going to get the wheels rolling again as I am starting my friends barclays case again on hardship grounds, what a coincedence.

The main problem I remember when bringing the claim to small claims court is who to sue? US small claims law is very particular that you sue the right entity / person, if you don't name the correct party or mis-spell their name, the case will be thrown out.

After getting numerous messages ignored eventually they gave me a name in Florida.

Am going to get back into this, will try and post regularly on here

I am still in the USA:beer:
