Nothing to do with racism ~ Herb put it better than I could.
  • Blimey - One the one hand I am flattered someone is paying so much attention, but on the other hand it unfortunate to see that you have created a strawman from selecting quotes and inventing a story - anyone can do that (remember, to a man with a hammer, the world is a bed of nails). I'll clarify a few points because I hope you are fair enough to see the context of things.

In your posts 1, 3 & 12 you make it quite clear that you find these people very intimidating. Yet in post 46 you state that neighbours have no problems with them whatsoever

Yes, i did find myself feeling intimidated when I visted the property and was spoken to abruptly (in whatever that could be translated) and the reception i got from the other occupants. During the tenancy i have spoken to neighbours and asked whether they had any problems and it was always no and one actually went on and said they are great compared to a group of aussies further down the road.

and in post 73 say that the neighbours are actually quite complimentary about your tenants. This is despite an ever-changing group of 9+ intimidating ‘skinheads’ built like ‘tanks’ constantly coming and going and your suspicions that they are running a brothel (post 56) and your later assertion that the neighbours actually reported your tenants for illegally fly-tipping by putting furniture and broken electrical equipment on the pavement (post 66).

If my neighbours have not said anything against them to my face, then what should I do? Start making things up to suit my needs? As for the fly-tipping, a 'neighbour' or someone has reported them because there was electrical equipment outside their house which had a big yellow council sticker saying 'this has been reported - fly-tipping is illegal' etc. I dont know which neighbour has reported them - it could be someone from a road away – presumably not the ones who gave me the ok. People – neighbours – can have differing opinions depending on their experience and interests.

Either these guys are intimidating tattooed-up yobbish skinheads who are probably running a brothel and tipping rubbish everywhere (which would upset any neighbours I can imagine) or they are not. You need to make up your mind!

Classic strawman here. The brothel bit was a joke and you have drawn a conclusion here by making an either/or statement yet the matter isn't as simple as you would like to seem it.

You say that the EA was only involved in finding these tenants (post 12) and it is clear from posts 47, 48 and 56 that you have been visiting regularly and have known throughout the year (post 1) that they have been sub-letting to over 9 people at a time!

Throughout the year I did contact the EA but they were not interested. I wrote the tenants many letter, but no reply. What was I to do?
    Nenen wrote:
You chose to do nothing about this until 3 weeks before the end of the tenancy and are now trying to blame the EA, when you have known almost from the start that most, if not all, the tenants the EA found you are no longer around.

The fact I bumped into the original tenant and the fact that I feel intimidate in returning the deposit is why i have contacted the EA. This has all happened now, in the context of timelines.

You say (posts 12 & 47) that you haven’t been able to sort this out because of the language barrier and yet in post 53 you state that you have been instrumental in getting a promotion for a Polish guy (who surely could have helped you or at least given you the name of a competent interpreter).

No one at work knows about my personal life - i do not speak to my colleagues on that level. Point taken re interpreter - but I dont think it would have made a difference as the people in the house ignored letters sent to them etc. In fact, I wouldn't have known who to address them to.

You say that you can’t possibly wait a while before moving in and yet in post 74 you say what an experienced LL you are with several properties to your name. None of this adds up!!!!

I think I missed the joke here, what doesn't add up?

My goodness Loretta you're a real glutton for punishment!

Maybe scoobyman's tenants who are such 'ideal neighbours' have morphed back into yobs likely to threaten the life of his tiny child and have transported him into a third dimension! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Again, I don't find this funny.

In fact, while I am all for having a joke, bringing my child into this is quite hurtful.

I'm trying desperately hard to stop humming the football chant my dh and sons sing when the opposing team are being soundly beaten..... ' it's all gone quiet over there!' :T :T :T :T

Is having a laugh at someone's expense really the reason for your input on this thread?

Are you just looking for someone to beat up? It won't work.

I really do hope that you don't have to go what I am having to go through.

It doesn't matter how much money you have or earn, but trust me the feeling of having to give someone money or even challenge to give it back because you feel intimitated isn't nice.

I can't speak for furndire - but the analogy holds true with me.

It's not racism - its the last ten posts or so of childish character assasination that echos Jade and Danielle.

As far as rudeness goes on this thread - scoobyman has nothing to worry about.

    Get a life.

    Hear hear, well said.
My sig's too large, apparently - so apologies to whoever's space I was taking up.:lipsrseal

I've had neighbours like your tenants and not complained, people don't complain because a) scared of tenants b) can't contact landlord c) scared of landlord being in with scary tenant or relative d) scared any 'neighbour dispute' will end up on file....

If I found out you were the landlord moving in and I'd - said tiny child would be subjected to some nice cheery drum n bass or lawn mowing during his naps...

You were a negligent landlord, you allowed a situation illegal to the tenants and unpleasant to continue and are now only bothered because you might lose a bit of cash...

Just as well its a detached house.

Its sad that you would attack an innocent child rather than try to resolve the situation.

When I discovered the situation in the house, I repeatedly contacted the EA and wrote to the tenants that signed the contract. Now the point is that they have gotten away with it, but at the expense of their deposit. Or at least I hope so.

News from the EA...They are investigating the complaint.

While I was somewhat waivering and think of giving in when I started this thread, the responses from the coven (you know who you are) has motivated me to fight this one out til the end.

Many threads on this website are important to posters and respresent issues that may be causing them a significant amount of stress. We should not let bullies demoralise or belittle other people's problems.

HAVE YOU GOT YOUR HOUSE BACK ?

    Amusing day today:

The Slovak on the radio complained that the Poles ran a Mafia and were prepared to undercut Slovak wages to under minimum wage levels.

A Ukranian complained that the Poles shopped the Ukranians to the authorities to get them deported.

The Romanian complained that he had not left family and come here to be accused of being a pick-pocket by the British (?) bloke in the Q, who had made the point that as they did not qualify for benefits, unlike the Poles, that might be their only way not to starve.
He (the Romanian) had been harassed out of Italy, but had heard that UK was a much nicer place to try to make a living.

Meanwhile the Pole was collecting his fellow countrymen because British building workers were crooks who left, stealing his tools, the minute his back was turned.

    What do I know:

I have tried to check wage levels in Poland on the net. Rates are rising but they still get paid 00's for tasks that the British get paid 000's HOWEVER this misstates the true position, as the GDP per head is only 20% of the (old) EU average. This is because a large portion of the population are officially self employed peasant farm workers (In Britain they would have been forced off the land generations ago by economic forces).

A small survey (800?) suggests that the longer the Poles stay here, the more they, especially the females, like it. 25 - 33% want to stay. It sounds to me just like the Irish escaping to "Swinging England" in the 1960's.

Oh I spent 5 hours overnight on bank holiday Monday, stranded by a transport breakdown, at Victoria station. There were about 50 of us, about half were from E.Europe, they tended to be the better organised half with sleeping bags and back packs in the bone numbing cold.
